also, this is probably the thing i love most about the show--it inspires discussion. it is a coffee shop show. there is so much going on, internally and externally, and it's always interesting. this has been a very good thread.

Chuck is also creating somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy. By shutting him out for so long he had to go about things a different way.

He had to play a little fast and loose with the rules simply to get his foot in the door on this case. Who knows what happens if Chuck lets him work his way up like anyone else would.

well, except chuck has reaped the rewards of his accomplishments already. he believes jimmy doesn't deserve to be where he is, but he doesn't think jimmy has something that he doesn't--tangibly. you could make an argument like you said about him being jealous of a trait jimmy has, like being charismatic and a crowd-pleaser. but definitely not jealous of what jimmy's accomplished or anything.

Yes, that is what I am saying. Not jealous as a lawyer. Jealous that Jimmy is a salesman and has now used that to talk his way into Chuck's realm where people are actually taking him seriously.

Agreed.

Chuck's biggest bitch move though was not just flat out telling Jimmy "I dont want you working at my firm"

If you want to stand up for the law then stand up for it. Dont make Professor Lasky from Saved by the Bell the College years (Howard) do it

Good episode this week. Loved seeing Hector. One of my favorite BB characters.

And now we get to find out what rendered him unable to talk or walk. (Mike or Tuco?)

I'm guessing it was a stroke. But maybe because Tuco caused him high blood pressure.

Yea, that's a logical guess but I'm hoping for something with a better story.

I thought the offer of $5K to Mike to change his story to cops...and possibly take the gun charge was ...was a pretty low offer. "only" 5K ? He got $25K for getting beat up!

I like the show....just seems like the writers are always "putting on the breaks". Hence...a season 3 I suppose.

Hector doesn't know that though.

I love this show even in slow episodes like this past week's. I lol'd at "I'll get Francis on that. You've got enough on your plate in Doc Review." What an asshole!

Yea, my guy Howard moving back towards villain territory.

I think Hector knows its a low offer though. He thinks he's intimidating Mike. Maybe he is.

Crazy theory...
For some reason, I think the story Chuck told about their Dad ends up not being accurate. Eventually we'll find out that the Dad really did fuck up the money and Jimmy took the blame to preserve his memory.

He may have been trying to intimidate Mike, but that isn't going to work. Mike didn't look intimidated at all after that exchange. He looked like he knew exactly the type of dudes he just got involved with, but he didn't appear scared or nervous. Just mad as fuck.

I don't believe the story about their dad either. Not sure if your theory will be true or something else, but I don't believe it either.

Worth mentioning Kim is an awesome character and the actress that plays her is great. I have a feeling shit's going to come down hard on her either end of this season or next though.

I doubt we ever find that out. It seems like it was just a simple stroke.

Great ep, really interesting to see Mike interacting with Hector cause as we all know Mike ends up working for Gus, Hector's sworn enemy. It will be interesting to see if these interactions with Tucco and Hector put Mike on Gus' radar in the first place.

Yea, Im sure they will intersect

Im in season 4 of BB rewatch. The scenes with Saul and Mike are a little rough in syncing up with Better Call Saul. I mean obviously they never say anything that ruins BCS but they definitely don't act like guys that have worked together and known each other for 10 years.

With Hector, I dont know if it will be a stroke or not, but I think it will be more than "a normal stroke".
We'll see events leading up to it.

Yeah, but Mike always seems as if he's sorry he ever met Saul/Jimmy.

I agree about Mike and Saul. In BB its clear that Mike is more alligned with Gus than he is with Saul and pretty much just refers to Saul as "the lawyer". Which is weird cause in BCS it seems like Mike has some sort of liking for Saul and vice versa. Even if they lose that "friendship" it doesn't really make sense for Mike to barely acknowledge Saul the way he does years later in BB.

I think you're way over thinking things about Hector. A stroke is a stroke. Also not sure if we'll get much history about it, but that would be cool.

Just think, if Mike takes that deal it gets Tucco out of jail a lot sooner and puts him and Walt on the collision course which was a big part of Walt becoming the kingpin he ended up being and, in the end, leading to Mike's demise.

That doesn't come through for me at all. I see Mike sighing every time he has to deal with Jimmy and only dealing with him because he doesn't know another lawyer in Albuquerque who is so shady. And Jimmy always seems slightly frightened by Mike, as if he wants to conduct the business as quickly as possible and get away from him.

Agreed but there is a begrudging respect between the two for their unique "skill sets"

Mike is meeting the BB guys in the same oder as Walt. Tuco, Hector, Next up Gus! (Hopefully)

Be cool to see Don Eladio at some pont too

I always assumed it was a stroke, I could see Gus piecing this together and approaching Mike.. Maybe Gus has mike take hector out and Mike botched the hit.

this is such a brilliant show. "rebecca" is really the show that boasts kim wexler as the driving force of the second season. she's outstanding in this episode, and the show really shines with the three main characters: jimmy, chuck, and kim, all playing a genuine game at their best.

i think this episode pretty much concludes that chuck is jealous of jimmy's personality though. the fact that he charms chuck's wife with lawyer jokes and chuck bombs with his, proves that chuck does hold a grudge. sure he knows he is top dog, jimmy is the black sheep, but he knows that jimmy was the apple of his father's eye ("jimmy cried the hardest" at dad's funeral).

this is one of the best character studies in television history. besides "rectify".

the kim wexler train keeps steaming ahead and it's a worthy trip. mike, kim, and chuck seem to be the strongest characters even though jimmy is the "focal" character of the show...at least, the titular character. i even really like nacho.

fastest hour in television right now. i almost wish i would've missed this season just so i could watch it all in succession on netflix or something, without commercial breaks.

top notch writing and acting.

so you're complaining about having to spend 7 seconds fast forwarding through commercials?

I'm not complaining. I'm emphasizing the advantage of binge watching when you don't need a remote in order to watch shows.
