Oklahoma RHP Alec Hansen was 95-98 but was pulled in the 2nd inning because of 4 walks and a HBP. Only 14 of his 36 pitches were for strikes. Gotta throw strikes, Son. 1 IP 1 H 3 ER 4 BB 1 K 1 HBP

It's only 4 games against SIU Edwardsville and Western Kentucky but Corey Ray (Simeon) is hotter than a rolling ball of butcher knives. He's 11-15 with 1 double, 1 triple 3 home runs, 13 runs and 9 RBI. His slash line is .733/.750/.1533. He's also 6-6 in stolen bases. The only negative is they have him playing left field. It sure would be nice to know that your top 10 pick can handle playing center field.

I was able to see him at Kane County before he was traded. You would like him now. They really simplified his delivery. He's more compact and direct to the plate. His stuff isn't as electric but it's tighter with much better command. That night he was working on fastball/changeup command so they didn't let him throw a breaking ball until the 5th inning but the few I saw were hammers. I hope Atlanta keeps him like he is now and doesn't try to change him again. If they do he should move quick and can get to the big leagues sometime in mid 2017. He most likely won't be an ace but he'll be a solid 2-3 for a long time.

Riley Pint made his first start of the year tonight. His fastball was 94-98 and his slider was 84-89. An 89 mph slider from a high school Kid. Good god man.

Ha. That's a great question. I didn't go thru every year but when they played in the 2000 WS the Mets (94-68) had a better record than the Yankees (87-74). This might not be the first time since that season the Mets had a better record but it sure feels that way.

Georgia RHP Robert Tyler sat 94-97 and topped at 99 in a dominating performance against Alabama. Tyler has a plus fastball and plus change but his breaking ball and command are both below average. When he has it all working like last night he's one of the most dominating pitchers in the country (no hitter thru 8.2 IP) but the lack of command makes him very inconsistent. Where he goes will depend on a team believing he can improve the command and BB to at least average and develop into a middle to top of the rotation starter.

Kyle Funkhouser has been bumped back to the Sunday starter. I like Funk but the stubborn bastard has made some terrible decisions. I think he'll be a better pitcher when he can finally put all this bullshit behind him and he can just concentrate on pitching. He's lost a ton of money and he has no one else to blame but himself.

Louisville RHP Zack Burdi (Downers Grove South) hit multiple 100's during his relief outing yesterday. Many believe he has the repertoire and athleticism to transfer as a starter at the next level but that combination of huge fastball and wipeout slider could get him to the big leagues in a hurry (possibly this year) as a back end reliever. It will be interesting to see where he goes in the draft and how that team utilizes him.

LHP Jason Groome threw a no hitter today and struck out 19. His fastball sat 90-94 and topped at 97. His final pitch of the day was 94. Easy gas.

In this scenario he could. I'm not sure he's a top 5 guy. It's a huge arm but it also comes with some warts. His arm action isn't ideal, he has a lot of effort in that delivery and the command is spotty at best.

If he falls out of the top 5 I don't see Billy Beane taking a high school arm at 6. Miami took a 100 mph HS arm last year in Tyler Kolek and he just went down with Tommy John so I don't see them going down that road again and AJ Preller will never pass on a Puerto Rican SS so that leaves Detroit at #9.

Sure maybe Colorado or Milwaukee will be tantalized by that big arm but I think they will go the safer route with college guys. We'll see how it plays out but I wouldn't be surprised if he even drops out of the top 10.

LHP Jason Groome has been ruled ineligible by the state of New Jersey's governing body for high school athletics for violating the state’s transfer rule. He is suspended for 12 games or 30 days. He'll miss 2-3 starts.

What a shit show. He transferred from a school in Florida because he decided he wanted to play his senior year with his hometown high school. It's not a "ringer" in-state transfer situation. He just wanted to play his last year with his childhood friends. This really shouldn't affect his draft position that much because guys already saw him be real good but you still feel bad for the guy.

Riley Pint didn't have his best control yesterday but sat 96-99 and hit 100 several times. He also mixed in an 85-88 slider and 90-92 change up (good lord). 6 IP 6 H 4 BB 6 K

How in the hell can a batter identify a 92mph change up?!? Especially non-MLB players.
