Agree with Doc and GD. Smith is not going to be the pick. Bears cannot pick redshirts 2 years in a row.

Kiper had him at #3 to Chargers.
McShay had him #9 to Tampa

so neither see him falling to Bears at #11.

Count the Bears among teams that will have a tough decision to make on Hackenberg. His stock has fallen to a second- or third-round value. Jared Goff will be a top-five pick, while Paxton Lynch and Carson Wentz will likely be selected in the first round. Character concerns about Connor Cook may make Hackenberg that next quarterback available.

Bears brass met with Hackenberg this week at the NFL Combine, looking for a potential first-round value in the middle rounds. Ryan Pace has stated his desire to draft a quarterback each year. At the very least, the Bears have a backup in place behind Jay Cutler. But perhaps his potential is that of the next quarterback in Chicago.

Of course, the odd quirk is that Hackenberg’s most similar comparison is Cutler — both quarterbacks with strong arms but prone to mistakes. Pace could make the middle-round move for Hackenberg, or wait until the later rounds and bolster the roster with more immediate needs than quarterback.

I've seen way too many mocks with the Bears picking Jaylon Smith in the 1st. That is not going to happen.

IIRC he made a helluva lot of plays in the offensive backfield, but seemingly wasn't on the field quite a bit. Never quite heard how much of it was a rotation thing or conditioning.

That's how we ended up with Shea Mc. Emery heard the Patriots were interested.

He was an monster for NU for the first 3-4 games when the Cats defense was as good as any in the country but he seemed to disappear just as the NU defense disappeared as the season progressed.

Check out the Duke game if you want to see a best case scenario.

Looked at the Duke game. Lowry's a play maker. Good size and he hussles.

It would be a decent pick if the Bears got him.

Just read where LB Darron Lee from Ohio State is projected by some to go to the Bears in the first round. That is the first time I have seen his name linked to the Bears

Todd McShay at ESPN Mock draft 3.0

11. Chicago Bears

Shaq Lawson, DE, Clemson

The Bears need more impact players on defense, and Lawson -- who led the FBS with 25.5 tackles for loss last season -- fits the bill. He plays with a good mixture of relentlessness, technique and discipline. Lawson isn't the best athlete on tape, but he tested well at the combine and has a good first step.

I'd worry there. He's a one year starter that played in an overrated conference. Injury aside he played well in the playoffs after a long layoff, but I don't remember him doing much in the Florida State or 2nd half of the Notre Dame games.

ESPN Mel Kiper Mock 3.0

11. Chicago Bears

*Leonard Floyd, OLB, Georgia

The Bears did work on the interior of the defensive line in the 2015 draft, but they need pass-rushers and Floyd is a big-time upside play.

McShay at ESPN did a two round mock today.

Bears

11. Chicago Bears

Jack Conklin, OT, Michigan State

Inside linebacker is much less of a need after the Bears picked up Danny Trevathan and Jerrell Freeman in free agency. But even after signing offensive tackle Bobby Massie, Chicago could still look to spend a first-rounder on another OT. Conklin is a plug-and-play starter on either the left or right side of the line, with the long arms (35 inches) and agility to protect the QB. This move would also allow Kyle Long to bump back inside to his natural position at guard and solidify the entire O-line.

41. Chicago Bears: Kendall Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech

Fuller is an instinctive playmaker in coverage, he's tough against the run and he makes an impact on special teams. If he returns from his ACL injury at full strength, he'd be a steal here.

Just what we need, another draftee with an injury history. No thanks.

Treadwell ran a bad 40 time at his pro which should make him drop. Bears should take him regardless of what they already have at WR. He is going to be really good.

Sticking with the same pick here from the previous mock. The Bears did a nice job in free agency at inside linebacker, but Floyd is the edge defender who could really help early in passing downs.

Here's a pretty good toss of about 80 yards from his own 35 left hash -

If Leonard Floyd and Reggie Ragland are gone, I wouldn't mind the Saints taking him.

Not if the Bears get him first. I'd been hoping the Bears could get Wentz but he won't be there.

I wasn't too sold with Lynch after his combine showing but some of that pro-day stuff looks solid. Let him sit for a year or so. He's got a good arm and size.

I like him here more than EE. I really think the Bears need to add offensive skill positions in the higher rounds and a Safety.

Might be time to update my mock draft.
