Another out of touch article.

Maybe the better black athletes dont want to play baseball? Why would they?

I mean, if I was 22 and chose a sport because I had that chance, I would play in the NBA. Better money, shorter season.

So why is it so confusing that better younger athletes try and play other sports?

Track meets. No. Baseball games. Absolutely. Can't force kids to play if they don't want to play.

I don't buy it at all. Royals had a baseball academy for a few years and found a couple major leaguers out of it.

That was 40 years ago. It's a little easier to find guys who WANT to play today. There are baseball programs everywhere for all ages and income levels. Again. Can't force kids to play.

btw- aren't you the guy who wants "ballplayers" over "athletes"? Are you changing lanes?

So you're telling me you couldn't get 50 kids 17-22 that are not currently under college scholarship to come to a 2 month all expenses baseball camp? because they are doing what instead?
And the best prospect of the bunch is not more interesting than your typical 46 round 2nd baseman out of old smokey tech?

Sure they could but that would be a waste of resources better used elsewhere. Some teams still do open tryouts. I know the Braves have one around here every year. Again it's not 40 years ago. If Kids want to play baseball they have plenty of opportunities.

I'd like Regular Reader's comments on the subject. I"m not saying that is the exact way it needs to be done but to invest $1MM annually in each of the largest US cities with the goal to increase black minor league numbers by 50% within 10 years. Would that be doable? would that be ethical? would that be good business?

I'd like to hear Readers thoughts on this subject too. I'd like to know if he thinks baseball isn't being scouted in the inner-city. I'd also really like to know why he doesn't like the players I like.
