The Wire is a million times more complex than Breaking Bad. There are a lot of characters and complicated subplots. Also, it's far more realistic. You don't need to suspend disbelief the way you do with Breaking Bad.

More characters no doubt, more complex? Cammon' man.

Are you serious?

I think he is.

312, what do you think David Simon meant he said about The Wire, “Consider it a big op-ed piece, and consider it to be dissent."

I never had a hard time keeping up with any plots or characters in the Wire, I can't call it complex..I don't consider BB complex either. When I think Complex I think GOT or season 1 True Detective.

I've lost interest in The Wire after the last couple of pages in this thread. Sounds kinda gay now.

It's more like the baseball of TV shows. But I get that you're a hockey fan. So you better stick with that zombie crap.

I agree, baseball is so complex that they have to stop every 5 seconds and then spend a minute figuring out what they are going to do during the next 5 seconds of action. Rinse and repeat for 3 hours (4 if its playoffs) and you got yourself a baseball game. Very complex stuff.

If the wire is baseball than game of thrones is chess and season 1 of TD was Chinese arithmetic.

OK, this conversation is getting goofy and it's clear 312 didn't really understand what the Wire was about, which is fine. It works as pure entertainment too.

Back to the Saul finale, I mostly agree with Ken. It was decent, but I felt disappointed mostly. The ending scene wasn't much of a cliffhanger, and wasn't very well written, IMO. It seemed pretty out of character for Jimmy not to realize something was up, considering how obvious Chuck was making it and considering how obvious it felt to us as an audience. I'd be surprised if anyone said they didn't expect a recording device of some type at the end there. Plus, the stakes are low because we know Jimmy doesn't get disbarred.

Also, Chuck would be dead or in a coma if he fell and hit his head like that. In the show, it's within a day or two of that event and he's more or less fine. C'mon.

It really doesn't make any sense at all for anyone except Gus to leave the Don't note. I was disappointed he didn't make an appearance physically, but I read that was because they couldn't get the contract details worked out in time with the actor. I'm ok with this as a plan B.

Still a great show, and really looking forward to season 3.

Agreed. Someone could easily troll me at the bar after I've had 10 shots with this comment. I'd argue for hours.

I must admit I am slightly curious as to what makes baseball more complex than any of the other team sports. Might as well do it here, nothing to talk about with this show till 2017 anyway.

There's more going on just in the pitch selection within the context of the count than in the entire game plan in other sports. Really, basketball, hockey, and soccer are all the same basic game- advance an object into a goal. Football is only slightly different.

That doesn't really answer his inquiry though. Your first sentence couldn't be more vague.

Uhhh no man, I'm sorry if your heads in the sand like an Arlington heights or Evanston ostrich but the wire was pretty commonplace everyday life, it wasn't complex or hard to follow ..its called reality you condescending Caller Bob.

I was starting from the premise that we all have a baseline knowledge of what the pitcher and batter are respectively attempting to do. Perhaps that was a mistake.

It still doesn't answer anything though. It's like me saying "There's more going on just in calling one play in the context of a given set of downs in a football game than in an entire game plan in other sports." It's simplistic and untrue, just like saying one pitch call is more complex than an entire offensive or defensive game plan in a NFL game.

Pro football, more than any other game is a game of eras. The fat slobs that pass block for the modern drop-back passer couldn't possibly have led the Packer sweep the way Jerry Kramer did. I'm not saying that makes them better or worse. They're just different. But it's not like there are all these different options at the same time. At any given time most teams run the same basic offenses and defenses. And the personnel dictate such. You'll see much more variety in the college game which is one reason I like it better.

You want me to be more specific about the approach contained in a single at-bat? I can be. It's a back and forth made up of many, many tiny gestures. When the batter steps out of the box, it's not incidental. He's attempting to take the pitcher out of his rhythm. When the pitcher holds the ball an extra second. He is attempting to do the same to the batter. And we haven't even discussed an actual pitch yet. Where a particular pitch is supposed to be located, the effect that has on where the fielders need to be, whether the batter is going to make the right guess and what he is going to try to do with a given pitch if he guesses correctly. Not to mention whether the pitcher can actually make the pitch. It's just a very complicated game. Much more complicated than a line stunt.

What a thread.

I agree with the few who said "Good, but was expecting Great" from the finale

The Chuck hospital scene upside down shot was fucking great. I felt violated after that scene.

What about the opening scene with the mom? She obviously said something to Chuck before she died right? Take care of Jimmy or something?

The Wire was awesome. I think you probably could enjoy it as a basic police drama without paying attention to every detail but its a better experience if you do.

She asked for Jimmy.

I thought the episode was very good. Chuck out Jimmied Jimmy

Good season. Disappointing finale.

Also, given that recording audio of someone without their knowledge is against the law(or at least impermissible in court) it doesn't fit with Chuck's character to do it given the high horse of integrity he had set all season.

I think the ultimate problem with this show is that nothing major can really happen since it all has to fit nicely into the start of Breaking Bad.

Also, wasn't this season supposed to highlight Saul post-BB more?

I still think Jimmy will get the best of Chuck. Wouldnt be surprised if Chuck takes his own life...or gets electrocuted. Was Chuck ever mentioned on BB?

Most states have one party consent laws. You can record someone saying something as long as you are part of the convo

You generally cant evesdrop on 3rd parties and submitt that as evidence tho

My guess is that black guy destroys the evidence for jimmy but its too late for kim and she loses her client/leaves jimmy

I didn't hear that. I can't imagine there's ever going to be more than a few flash forwards showing little nuggets, like how he still considers himself to be Saul Goodman and not Jimmy McGill(carving "SG was here" on the wall)
