Also, if you don't think these guys call each other burritos and worse all the damn time, you're the tenderest person alive.

The Hawks won those Cups because all three teams could chip it in and retrieve it. They were called soft for not hitting which is bullshit because they were dominant on the boards in both ends whenever they wanted to be. Panarin and Ansimov don't play that chip and chase style and that pretty much leads to having to try too many entry passes and the Blues will snuff that out everytime, especially if you try to attack through the middle.

In 2010 and 2013 the Hawks were just clearly better than everyone else. What they pulled off in 2015 with only four defenseman was incredible.

If it weren't for what Kane and Crawford pulled off this season we would be talking about how this team reminds us of the 2011 team. They'd have to pull off some black magic to win this series now. This not a 2013 vs Wings situation. That team just had to pull their head's out their ass. This team just isn't that good.

Yea, its said in every sport, especially in hockey.

"Fuckin right, boys, let's go. Don't let that burrito beat us" all casual on the bench about it.

Yeah. Like I said the other day, who did we think we were kidding with a pushover like Teuvo Teravainen centering perpetual healthy scratch Tomas Fleischmann? And Stan scrapped so hard just to get the roster to this point.

Random rant.

Eventhough he declined last season (I blame mainly injuries and the cheating rumors), Sharp was a great 3rd line player in the playoffs last year and was pretty much the perfect modern day hockey player in his prime here. He could literally do everything at a top level. He had no real weaknesses. When we look back at this era he should be revered as much as Toews, Kane and Keith.

Saad, although not quite as good as prime Sharp, was a beast who dominated board battles to keep puck possession and did everything good too. Without Saad, Toews looks like a #2 center.

How many times did we watch those two just school the opposition with superior hockey iq, speed and skill while they were here? You're not replacing those two phenomenal players and their will to win with what we tried to. This last off season was alot tougher for me to accept than the 2010 purge. I wanted to watch those guys play their entire careers here.

Excellent point. Anisimov has brought a lot to the table, and I don't think Panarin would have had the year he had without him, but Saad was, is, and will be the superior player. What a terrible turn of events to have only gotten three years of him. I know there wasn't another choice, but the team signed its death certificate with the Toews contract. You just can't build around a contract like that when you're paying for past performance. If not that contract, definitely the new Seabrook one.

You keep bringing up Toews' contract but you fail to realize the reason why he commanded that salary: #1 Center and Captain of a team that was coming off its 2nd Stanley Cup. The eradication of Hossa's skills, plus a lack of a left wing, has led to a statistical drop in Toews' offensive numbers. A team that consistently finds and develops talent is eventually going to have make difficult decisions, especially in a league where the salary cap is not increasing like the NBA and NFL. I'll take the 3 Cups and having to deal with cap issues over having a cheap owner who jettisoned star players simply because he was more worried about his bottom line than winning.

I will agree on the Seabrook contract, plus the way the NHL is punishing teams for giving contracts like Hossa's to players is a bunch of bullshit. There has to be a softening of the cap to reward teams for developing their own talent; if certain teams can't survive because they hire incompetent individuals, then relocate or dissolve them.

Yeah, I'll take the three Cups, too. Anyone would. But don't pretend the ride won't end. It may have ended tonight.

It will end but its been a hell of a ride...enjoy it CH, because like the 90s Bulls, we might not see something like this for a long time.

Funny that Andrew Shaw was the last straw in the only two pants-shittings of the 2008-2016 Toews/Kane era (suspended for the bullshit Mike Smith flop, calling a ref a burrito).

Season likely over and we get Mully and Hanley discussing with Rosenbloom for 20 minutes how awful the F word is. They might put Shaw in jail. :?

It's a word I don't use anymore. But let's all be honest- we've casually used that word for years. I never used it with any intent to slur a gay person. Since gay people take offense, I see no reason to utter the word any more.

I think our entire society is overly sensitive, but then I have never been a target of discrimination or a hate crime. So who am I to say whether gay people should take offense to a word?

At my age I would never have any reason to use it. In normal conversation I doubt many would. But given our younger years to be so outraged at it is ridiculous. It clearly wasn't some thought out attempt to shame a truly gay person.

Even today I hear high school boys use it just the way we did even in this much more evolved world. I also have seen the same kids actually celebrate and accept the true homosexuals in their school as if they are no different at all. Evolution happens but some fail to realize it takes time as well.

I'm still hoping but I've never felt less confident in the 8 or so years I've been watching this team. If CH gets to CH tonight I'll move to the piss and moan thread.

It is very very difficult to repeat in the NHL and hasn't been done in 20 some years. We are very fortunate to have this Hawks dynasty which still has a great great core of star players which ensures they will be in the playoffs for the next five or six years.

Up until the 2 goal lead, 7 mins left in the 3rd, never felt the Hawks were out of it, but then again, never felt they were in control either

Blues -130
Hawk +110

Underdog this eve

I'm with you. In the past, I've still held faith in the team. But about mid-second period last game, I had a strong conviction they'd lose that game, and it's just based on how this team has been playing. They just can't score enough. They don't seem to have it in them to overcome these odds.

What really sucks is that they went all-in with that Ladd trade. Ladd hasn't helped at all, imo, and on top of it it looks like they'll have given away prospects for a rental that ultimately got them nothing. That hurts going forward, which really makes this sting.

All the games have been extremely close. It could have gone in all directions in the first four games. The problem now is that the Hawks have to get those lucky breaks in each of the next three games.

Not over 'til it's over, but the difference between this season's playoff and recent previous season is that you cannot look at any of the four games and blame a lack of effort or urgency in this playoff - it's just that St. Louis has been the better team overall, even if the games have been close. The Hawk' best effort just is not good enough to match the best of St. Louis. Still gonna watch tonight and keep hope alive, but I'm not optimistic. Doesn't surprise me; they have not won back-to-back Cups before, and I didn't expect it this year, either.

Not only did Ladd not really do much here, Blake Wheeler went on an absolute tear to finish the year once he got Ehlers and Scheifele as new linemates.
