Was he directing the slur to someone who is suspected to be gay, or was it more of a general insult along the lines of Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross ("are you listening to me, you fucking burritos?")?

I am curious as to whether most people would consider one worse than the other.

Funny to watch people on HFboards earnestly arguing that "burrito" is worse than "motherfucker" because one is a slur and the other is just a mean thing to call someone.

I'm sad he is suspended but I don't mind it. I see why, and I don't condone what he said. Let's not act like he barged into a gay bar and started beating people senseless.

It's like the campaign to not call people "retards." As if me calling my buddy a retard for doing something dumb has any effect on how I think of actual retards. Or as if calling actual retards something other than "retards" somehow changes the state of their condition.

Well, words do have meanings and connotations. I don't see the point in using a word that will hurt people unless my objective is to hurt them. But we should draw the line at some point with the doublespeak.
