The Score finally got its chance to go 24 hours, but now all we have is syndidation. Dan Patrick is sort of ok, but Sporting News David Stein and Jason Smith are horrid.

Why not start up some local sports talk shows overnites to build ratings? Taped Michael Medved or Savage was a horrible followup to the Illini-Ohio State pigskin upset. Funny thing both 670 and espn 1000 were stuck on
national games or maybe the BlackHawks so there was no local postgame that Saturday, then everyone went into NFL Sunday.

Wind can make a killing with local sports programming--heres a plan:

1) Les Grobstein 9 to 2am

2) Jim Rome tape delay 2-5am

Sports overnites will boost the fighting Illini/UIC and NFL stuff they already have and they could keep their regular stuff during the days.

How are the ratings for the morning show ?

I have to think that the syndicated shows are probably inexpensive compared to have a local host.

I think it's a good idea though - I know they want to be the conservative voice, and I guess that means 24/7 talk, but they do some sports already, why not try to make that investment work by trying something a bit different especially in the evenings ? Gotta be money.

The morning show is probably not taking off like gangbusters, but a local sports show would be strategic; the plan would be to make more money on the evening events they already have by hyping them with listener interaction, getting listeners involved.
A local hosted sports show would tie in all those events and build up more local advertising than repeating political shows that have nothing to do with sports. Plus who else would have more broad knowledge to host than the Grobber? Grobber knows the Illini, UIC & NFL as well regular Bear Cub Sox talk.

Its a longshot, but it makes too much sense .

Only a few short years ago, Grobber was the pre/post game host for Notre Dame... until stupid WLS decided that Chet Coppock would be a better choice.

I get that Chet was big back in the day. But imagine Hot Stove Game Day, Talking Baseball or Chicago's NFL Gameday... remove Chet and insert Grobber and ESPN 1000 suddenly would be listenable on the weekends.

M, you're right about Coppock.

Just for once I'd like to hear him give an ounce of credit to the other team after a Fighting Irish or Bears loss.

Failing that, maybe he could just spend a little less time talking about himself, his girlfriends, the 1970s, all the rock starts he once met, etc. Then that airtime could be used on, say, sports.

I got here in the late 90s, so I never heard the golden age of Coppock. He must have been really damn good, because otherwise I can't imagine why he gets these gigs.

I was too young to enjoy him in the early 90's during his radio days.

My best memories of him is when he worked for Sports Channel and Fox Sports Chicago hosting The Game Room and Bulls pre/post games during the later championship years.
