Wow.

During Buffone and Thayer's football segment, Ofman breaks in just now and apologizes for giving out some inside info. For those that missed it, Ofman reported that Rafael Furcal was ready to sign with the Cubs but the Dodgers offered 3 yr 39 mil........Furcal's people informed the Cubs and wanted them to sweeten their deal of 5 yr 47 mil, but apparently the higher ups (Mcphail, f-a-i-l....) would not go any higher and Ofman's "source" said that Furcal's camp may have only asked for about a million more. So OFman reported it earlier as being similar to Maddux in 92......well I guess people caught wind of Ofman's report , and his source must've told Ofman this info in confidence (or the down low, hush hush, qt)and gave him so much of a tongue lashing that Ofman had to break into The Football Show to apologize to all parties involved, including "his bosses.....and it will never happen again"

wow.

I heard it. Expect Ofman's sources to provide him with generous servings of extended middle finger from now on.

yeah it took me 3.5 hrs from Oak Brook to S.Shore. I thought about going to JJ Fish after I made it home but I just said F it and popped a Reggio's pizza in the oven.

Hey spmack, I enjoy reading your posts, but I have to tell you Reggio's frozen pizza is the absolute worst pizza I've ever had! No offense, man. :D

Marty, I absolutely disagree. Reggio's is the best as far as frozen pizza. Well maybe Home Run Inn is the best, but it's too expensive. I have to catch those when their on sale...but Reggio's does the trick for me...I like the butter crust...and to be honest, I nearly burned it earlier because I was too busy here trying to start this thread!

I kind of dislike all frozen pizza. The only one that I find to be acceptable is Tortino's party pizzas. Only problem is, they are small.

Anyways, back to Offman, I missed this. I can only imagine that this error of his puts him in a bad spotlight when it comes to gathering information from sources in the future. Let's just say that he doesn't have the confidence of his sources anymore... I would reckon that the Score would need to assign a new baseball insider or beat reporter.

What? Don't like the butter crust, huh?

Actually, I think Home Run Inn frozen pizzas are awful, for what they charge anyway.

This is starting to sound like an old North topic...

What's your favorite frozen pizza? Dial-it-up! But also, if you had to choose between pizza-bread & pizza-bagels, what's the call? Dial-it-up! If you're stuck on a desert island, dial-it-up!

Holy Shit, they're lit up like Christmas trees!

Nothing is finer when you're coming back from a long night at the bars than a Jack's canadian bacon thin crust, burnt to a crisp, douched with Tobasco and crushed red pepper.

And about Retardo Montalbon....he's probably screwed not only himself, but any of the other reporters for SCR that dare venture to Tribuneville for a long time. Way to go George.

Who wins in a slap-fight between him and the Rotissiere Chicken? I hear he's training to be a cage fighter

My local Aldi sells Reggio's for $1.99, so they're a staple in my freezer. I'm also a fan of the Tombstone BBQ God I hope that's chicken pizza.

This why I love reading the Boards. How a Ofman apology turns into a best Frozen Pizza thread! LOL SOLID!

It's not frozen, but the Trader Joes Min Fresh Pizzas are SOLID

It is very symbolic that Ofman and frozen pizzas ended up together in this thread. They have something very special in common. Both, frozen pizza and Ofman's chances at getting Cub inside information or any new information in the future for that matter are utterly crappy.

I'd go with HRI cheese pizza. Ready for blasphemy? I nuke it.

Call me crazy but my absolute favorite is the Jewel brand Thin and Crispy pepperoni pizzas. They're usually 2 for $4 and are great when cooked with some Franks Red Hot and a little red pepper. Good, cheap pizzas. Also just recently tried those square Freschetta pizzas. I'm not sure how much they cost but have a very different taste to them compared to other frozen pizzas. Worth a try IMO.

Depending on what you’re willing to shell out for a frozen pie, I recommend Connie’s. On a side note, you’d be amazed at what you can do w/ cheap frozen pizzas by adding a touch of shredded mozz, a sprinkle of parm, and a pinch of basil or oregano (basil if you’ve got garlic on the pie or in the sauce, otherwise I suggest oregano). Just look for a cheapie that has decent crust and a palatable sauce…

Did George say the information was incorrect?

With the SCORE switching to WSOX this summer and the Cubs sticking with Patterson, Neifi et al, I don't think George will lose out on any info. This management team will be gone at the end of the year and all will be good again.

By the way, frozen pizza sucks. It takes too much time to heat and then let cool off (nothing worse than burning the roof of your mouth). I'd rather order a Dominoe's than make a frozen. The wait time is equivalent.

So after 13 years of wasting his audience's time with inconsequential reporting and insubstantial updates, Aufman apologizes for the ONE significant, revealing and valuable story he's ever broke? What a joke. He should've apologized for his status as a radio non-entity for the past decade +.

What's the point of having "inside" sources if they only allow you to broadcast the company line? What is George afraid of losing? And for what exactly was he apologizing? He didn't deny the story was true, so he's publicly apologizing for informing Cubs fans of their team's non-existent commitment to winning baseball? I wonder if Mitch Rosen gave George permission to go on-air with this statement. George's behavior makes the Score look like it normally functions as yet another propaganda machine for the Cubs--the truth, apparently, only gets out by mistake. George may have covered his own ass, but in the process he destroyed both his credibility and the credibility of the station that bills itself as "the voice of the fan".

Dolphin, you’re supposed to be the resident food critic on board, and you eat that garbage? I’ll take a decent frozen pie over Dominos or Pizza Hut any day of the week. Besides, most of the time when a frozen pizza goes in the oven, it’s well after closing time. Packing one up while you wait is a good way to pass the time as well…

Sounds like he is apologizing for repeating "off the record" comments made to him. IF that is the case, he should be canned yesterday. These type of comments are made all the time. It is a sources way of providing a reporter with a little extra info, or an opening to go those higher and ask the 'right" questions to get more info.

It also sounds like some tribune big shot gave George and Mitch a call and reminded them who is truly in charge in this town.

Clearly, the source told George after his "scoop" that the comments were supposed to be "off the record". But I wonder what was said when George was milking him the first time around. It seems unlikely to me that George would mistake "off the record" comments for public stuff. Instead, the source is probably just covering his ass at George's expense. And George is trying to maintain his [apparently useless] sources at the expense of his station's credibility.

Any educated guesses on who the source was? I say it was Hendry.

Murphy would have been all over this on his show. I don't listen to him, but if he didn't say anything about it, you know there was an edict from 'SCR management. All to protect a goof like Ofman. Funny stuff.

That's a VERY interesting guess. If you are correct, then I'd say Hendry deliberately used George to embarrass the Tribune corporate hierarchy and save face with Cubs fans. Once George did his dirty work, Hendry had him apologize.

Alternately, perhaps Hendry and Aufman colluded. Hendry would get his story told while George would get to break something in a prime time slot. Then later George would apologize in an insignificant time slot, so theoretically not damaging himself and still allowing Hendry's info. to circulate.

Either scenario seems feasible to me.

Someone under Hendry (assistant type) seems like a more likely alternative. Hendry's been around for way too long to use a guy like Ofman to advance his agenda.

That is probably true. But I think it's possible Hendry had one of his minions either use George or make a deal with him.

Hendry may finally be feeling some pressure. 2004 was disapointing and frequently embarrassing; 2005 was a "white flag" season from the start....And now it looks like 2006 won't be any better. Moreover, there doesn't seem to be much talent surfacing from the Cubs vaunted minor league system.

Any one of them may be feasible, but you don't apologize on the air for on the record conversations. That's where the MP3 or the tape recorder comes in. If George allowed someone to use him like that, that is pathetic.

This has mafia written all over it. Can anyone Photoshop the scene with the horse's head in the bed with George's head instead on the producer guy?

I'm sure his comments were correct, but he got in trouble for saying them. That's crap too, the guy who told him didn't say 'off the record', or else he wouldn't have gone with it, but it was okay to make a huge deal about Ozzie's calling a friend of his a child molester, in another comment that was implied to be off the record. I don't care how journalism works, having to say 'off the record' for everything is gay as hell, use common sense
