There might be more speed in this race than the Derby. You should have the 2, 7, 8, 11 all going to the front with Nyquist behind them.

If Exaggerator can stay closer to the lead, he can win here. I'd expect a somewhat fast pace on the front.

Yeah, most of the preps and the Derby itself have had fast paces. This race doesn't look like it will be any different. I just can't see Exaggerator beating this horse though. They've tried to beat him every which way, i.e. racing close, staying back and making a big swooping move. Nothing has worked. About the only thing they haven't tried is to take him right to the lead. That worked in the Delta Jackpot, but I doubt they could do it against this field even if they wanted to. Every time Exaggerator has pulled up next to Nyquist, Nyquist has broken his heart.

So the rain might change the dynamic of this one. From what I've read, the horses that have done well in the mud are Nyquist, Exaggerator and Abiding Star.

There was a Forbes article quoting a guru who said that horses with long strides do best in the mud. I thought that was interesting. Gonna go back and look at the tape of these horses. The groundskeepers at Pimlico have a few tricks they can use to keep the track dry. And the rain is supposed to come early A.M. mostly, so maybe the track dries out some by then.

I'm still deciding on this one, with my Uncle Lino pick to win already locked in. Maybe Exaggerator gets the surge down the stretch as he did in San Anita to beat Nyquist finally. I like JORR's pick with Collected. He has a comparable time in 1 1/8 mi to Nyquist and has long strides, if that theory holds. Stradivari is fast but unproven at the distance. Abiding Star has appeal with decent speed figures and is a horse that likes the mud, while Uncle Lino is the wild card.

Pimlico is turning into a slaughterhouse. Two put down today so far, one after collapsing in the winner's circle.

The awesome horse Ben's Cat won yesterday at 10 years old.

Usually they don't race past 4 or 5 unless they are gelded. You can make much more in stud fees than continuing to race. Hell, American Pharoah was already announced he would stud at end of his 3 YO season before the Belmont last year if I'm not mistaken.

Use a professional rider instead of some hillbilly from Calistoga.

Kudos to Hawkeye Vince. I just couldn't see it regardless of conditions. I don't know what that moron was doing pushing into a 22 and change quarter. Where was Abiding Star?

Cherry Wine made a nice comeback after a terrible start. I had CW across the board and the 1-3-5 fifty cent trifecta box.

I had Exaggerator keyed to win with Nyquist two and Stradivari three. Didn't see Cherry Wine coming at all. Hat's off to my guy, Romans.

I think with a fast track Uncle Lino would have held on. After his fast pace, there was nothing left in him at the far turn. He gave Nyquist all he could handle.

It was Uncle Lino, Nyquist and Collected at the far turn, just where I wanted them to be. The last 1/8th screwed up everything.

What balls by Kent Desormeaux to go six wide to get around Nyquist and Uncle Lino at the far the turn so that he had a clear lane. Superior jockeying.

we won the race by being on the rail most of it....swung to the outside so he didn't have throwin the anchor out Uncle Lino giving him problems

That's going to go down as one of the worst tactical races I've seen from a jockey.

Exaggerator had that one big move that he was able to carry to the line.
