We can argue all day about whether public stadium financing should exist, but since it does, and since it is so widespread, we can look at how this compares to other lesser cities. The fact is that especially for a city the size of Chicago, this is not a bad deal. I can link the thread if we want but it chronicles a bunch of places that pay significantly more with no real gain outside of having a team. At least there is a case for the White Sox being important for that part of the city even if the gains in that area are not as large as you would have hoped.

With that said, the new owner will likely demand a new stadium, and get it, and we can all laugh at how much of a villain old Jerry was.

The simple fact is that many Cubs fans think they'd win more games if the Sox moved and that is where this comes from. It also doesn't help that the Chicago Bears are the dumbest franchise in sports in regards to stadium negotiation.

Here it is.

That one doesn't even include some of the more recent deals either.

There is literally no case that can be made other than it was a mayor's favorite team.

You should not have used literally.

That area was/is in need of economic drivers and investment. This could provide that. You know, just like how all the locals in Wrigley "leech money off the Cubs all summer"?

So, that is one case.

The simple fact is that in any town with two teams in the same sport one will be less popular. The Mets, the Clippers, and the White Sox are the less popular teams(though America makes a strong argument otherwise). It doesn't mean they don't have value. However, the White Sox do need an ownership change to fully realize that potential like the Clippers had.

An island of parking lots commissioned to ensure all revenue was funneled to the Sox/Jerry? A bar attached to the stadium built 20 years after the park opened?

Yes, White Sox do have value. Unfortunately their business model is dependent on best stadium deal in baseball. Once it's done they're better moving somewhere else to cheat taxpayers given Chicago/Illinois is broke as hell.

No.

This is not true at all.

Are you just trolling now?

It seems weird to me so many spend time lamenting the Sox' deal. It has been so long and nothing can be done about it now.

Its Cubs fans doing the lion's share of it. What do you expect out of them?

Deep down I gave the answer.

They think the added revenue from having one team in town would make the owners more money and let them spend more.

That is the only reason to be actively rooting for a team to leave your town and go someplace else.

The 100,000 or so Sox fans in Chicago would never become Cubs fans. And even if they did they wouldn't add much revenue.

The hand-wringing is against a crooked owner who's sole existence is built on bilking taxpayers.

Without hyperbole though, you can't even say that they deal is that out of whack compared to what others get.

There is a reason you care more about this than any other owner/team, even as they do MUCH more damage than evil Jerry.

I don't live in those other states. I live in Illinois.

How much of your money goes to Jerry?
