The guy made what 3 or 4 good movies & he thinks he should get a museum? Maybe we should build a museum for M. Night Shamalamadingdong on Devon Avenue.

Well, Mr. Shedd, Mr. Field, and Mr. Adler did it at some point too.

Let's just move all of those museums too while we are at it.

No, Rick. Your comparison would make sense if those guys had built a museum of retail and merchandising.

Well, with your disdain for a liberal arts education, it's not surprising that you don't draw a distinction between real science and history and a mediocre movie franchise.

You can't draw a distinction that you can't grasp.

I never really got into the Field Museum like I did the Art Institute, MSI, and Shedd. I really like paintings and fish.

Not that it'd be a place for the Star Wars museum, but is anyone ever gonna do anything with the giant hole in the ground at Lake Shore and North Water where the drill bit was supposed to go?

Resurrected from the dead?

http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/sneed-friends-of-parks-votes-to-move-forward-with-lucas-museum/

Sneed has learned a restart button has been pushed in the contentious battle to place the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art on the city’s lakefront.

In what was described as a stunning turnabout Wednesday, the Friends of the Parks’ executive board voted to restart negotiations with the city to “move forward with the Lucas Museum,” according to a highly placed source.

Sneed is told the board asked FOP director Lauren Moltz to move forward on a three-pronged plan which could include dropping the FOP’s lawsuit against the city in their lakefront museum campus battle and proceeding with repurposing the old Lakeside Center building at McCormick Place as the new location of movie mogul George Lucas’ interactive museum.

It would also include a firm commitment by the city to “reaffirm its desire to uphold it’s Lakeside Protection ordinance,” the source said.

“Look, 75 percent of the 16 man FOP board voted to get things moving,” said the source.

“The FOP was right about protecting the lakefront — but why pass up an opportunity to fix a problem at McCormick Place?” the source added. “So the board decided to move forward and get out in front of this situation.”

The Sun-Times had reported on Thursday that Mayor Rahm Emanuel was trying to persuade the Friends of the Parks board to drop its lawsuit blocking construction of the Lucas Museum near Soldier Field by offering to support another project the group has long wanted: extending public access to Lake Michigan.

The group’s “Last Four Miles” plan, unveiled in 2009, had envisioned adding 525 acres of lakefront parkland and extending lake access to Lake Michigan from the Evanston border all the way south to the Indiana border.

Friends of the Parks board member Fred Bates said earlier this week that the Friends of the Parks board was admittedly deeply divided over the Lucas Museum issue and was “always open to dialogue.”

In response to Sun-Times inquiries, Mayoral spokeswoman Shannon Breymaier earlier this week had issued a carefully worded statements that alluded to intermediaries but made no mention of the “Last Four Miles Plan.”

“A number of groups in the city have expressed a high degree of interest in making sure Chicago does not lose the Lucas Museum and its tremendous economic, educational and cultural benefits Those groups have gotten involved to try to find a way to ensure the museum and the opportunities it would create stay in Chicago,” Breymaier wrote.

I thought he sold off all his rights to Star Wars? What would be in this disaster of a project?

Just saw this.

You are the last person on this board that grasps "real science" so maybe just ignore this one like you ignored the "gay organizations that are against gay marriage" stuff.

Well, if the deal would include building it on the site of the old McCP, or somehow rehabbing the building, then why not?

Great scoop for Sneed, except no mention was made of trying to contact the Lucas people for comment. If they still have the "Not Interested anymore" sign out, then it doesn't fucking matter.

It's basically a museum about modern day storytelling in a visual form with an emphasis on special effects.

So, pretty much any movie or tv series made in the past 50 or so years.

Somehow tie it into a project that involved a new retractable dome baseball/entertainment facility on the lake front and you'd have something. Then move the Sox there and demolish the mistake that is the Cell...do something more cost effective with the current USCell site.

If we're going to have a conversation including the words "cost effective", we aren't going to be talking stadia or museums.

That's why I used the term in reference to the current Sox ballpark...that site would be better suited to housing, or commercial use.

This was going to be a simply hideous building, let's be honest.

Another bad day for neoliberalism, huh?

Does Rahm have to resign now like David Cameron, or is he just gonna wait until Hillary makes him Ambassador to Up Someone's Ass?
