I've said it before and I'll say it again.

That's a winning tandem.

They complement each other's areas of strength. They are listener friendly while not being comfortable. They can speak to life beyond sports in an interesting manner. I think Hood would challenge Dan as this is Hood's big shot after a decade at the principal's office.

But doesn't McNeil just go on fishing trips when he feels challenged?

Speigal is a whimp who feared the challenge of working solo. Hood would love that opportunity.

Hood is the goods no doubt, but I almost feel like you're wishing a Telander 2.0 experience on him here.

The Telander situation could not be less analogous

Cohost abandonment and no ability to be a team player are the main complaints/memories of the Telander/Hood era. Is that not similar in some comparison to the Dan McNeil experience?

I want to qualify this by saying I don't have an overwhelming hatred for the guy, but a leopard never changes its spots.

Hood and JD is the most entertaining pair in this city. I wish they were on more often.

It goes back farther than that. Hood worked his way up through the industry and had finally achieved the goal of day part host with his name on the marquee. Management took it from him through no fault of his own and made a disinterested person outside the industry a headliner.

Mac hasn't been invested in delivering a good sports talk show in more than a decade. Why would anyone expect him to be good in yet another return to the Score?

You are overstating. Dan was mopping the floors with the Score in 2006.

Mac let them all know he is immediately available.

Everyone wished him well on his future endeavors.

A half assed Mac is still better than anything else on the air currently. Hood is the goods too.

I think this is what happens when there is a serious lack of legit talent to choose from in the radio business. It is a dying medium, so the non existent up and coming radio personality field shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

Hiring Lovie is the best decision the U of I athletic program has made in many many years. It's a great hire. I wonder if they will let him employ his Son? I would guess that was probably part of the deal.

I think Mac wrote on here a few times that the highest amount on a bet for him was $100. That sounds believable from a highly paid guy with addictive tendencies.

Yeah aside from the fanciful notion of motivated Mac existing in the year 2016 for more than a handful of days at a time, this is the other issue. When people say he just needs to be with the right partner they overlook the recent history of Mac himself preferring partners which enable his worst qualities while failing to highlight his good ones.

I don't believe that either, but I have no reason to believe that he would stiff his guy after a bad week. Despite his flaws, he is a man of principle, unlike that weasel Scorehead.

Believing in false hope or as I like to call it 'The Derrick Rose Paradox'.

 I literally posted this in the other Mac thread yesterday

Yep. Believing Mac will behave at a station for an extended time is like believing Derrick Rose will stay healthy.

I understand Mac has been in touch with WSCR, but it is my hope that am1000 might team him up with Kap. That would be a great tandem.
