I could swear I read that Ladd publicly said he would take less to stay here. For what that is worth.

As for the Penguins, they do not win this year with a mid season coach change (to a former Hawks employee last year) and a bunch of guys from their minors playing out of their mind. Possibly due to the fact that their minor coach was the new Pens coach and he trusted and played them. Another comp is Malkin was complete shit this year so Toews can have one.

Umm, Malkin had 58 in 57 this year, so he was either hurt for a large part of the year or got so bad that he was healthy-scratched 25 times. The only comp that I see is that both scored 58 points, only Malkin did it in less than three-fourths the time.

I think the case with Sullivan was that Mike Johnston was such a horse abortion of an NHL coach that even a ham sandwich could figure out how to properly use Sidney Crosby and Phil Kessel. That Sullivan had familiarity with his AHLers may count for something, but he was only in W-B/S for half a season, the longtime Baby Pens coach having gone to Jersey with Shero, so it's not quite a Jon Cooper/Triplets scenario. So, uh, congratulations, ham sandwich.

Yes Malkin was hurt with a broken forearm. I was talking after he returned he was a ghost until like game 4 of the finals.

I am happy both are gone.
Bickell was useless and Teuvo was too soft, hence trading for Anisimov.

I get the impression that he wanted them to keep trying (???) and as a result be open and happy to launch Shaw. I wasn't intently listening though.

Makes me nervous that most around here seem good with this trade.

That cannot be good.

Bickell probably had the lowest value of any contract in the league. The only way to offset that was to move a cost-controlled skill player. It so happened that Panarin made Teravainen redundant.

Shaw has no cap hit on the books going forward. All you'd be trading is the right to negotiate, and unlike Saad last year, only has two more years before he's eligible for unrestricted free agency. It wouldn't work.

They got rid of bickell, that's more than enough. I doubt anybody here will be typing they really miss him or TT next season. Saad was hardly thought of this year.

Why are Silvy and Waddle repeatedly saying they only save $2M on Bicks not 4? Calling CH.

I have no problem trading Shaw for a 1st; he is at his highest value and opens up room for a veteran defenseman and a third line winger. If Vanek or Dustin Brown are bought out, definitely would take a look at them.

You want Dustin Brown over Andrew Shaw and you think a 25-year-old's RFA rights are worth a first-round pick? You on stupid pills?

I think you have the stupid market cornered with your Toews thoughts. Second, all I have been hearing is Shaw can be traded for a 1st; with the Hawks cap problems lessened, teams have less leverage to ask for extra players/picks. If Hartman is as good as they think, he's a capable replacement plus you make your defense and line depth stronger by resigning a Panik, Ladd, or even Weiss plus adding a d-man in Campbell or a cheaper wing in a Brown or Vanek.

Dustin Brown is a washed-up piece of shit. I don't even want him in the United Center to clean toilets; Derrick Rose wouldn't be able to take a piss without getting elbowed in the face.

Shaw will not fetch a 1st. If he's so fungible as to be replaced by a rookie without missing a beat, why would anyone give up a first-round pick for him?

Richard Panik took a pay cut to stay, which is impressive considering he's an RFA and needed to be offered at least 105% of his previous salary as a qualifying...er, offer. Solidifies the bottom six, but what's our top six?

a #1 center with 55 points is like a cleanup hitter with 55 RBI

100% agree. I think his problem is confidence. He really has all the talent in the world, but I think he doesn't want to be selfish and that hurts him.

TT is afraid of his own shadow. Panarin does everything that we were told TT can do. Why wait another 3 years for TT to maybe/possibly/hopefully turn into that player.

He would be relatively cheap, and is still young. Plays the PP, PK and can play C, LW and RW?

Yes, he's cheap and young and has promise. That's why he had to be included. I'll take the guy that can perform right now over the guy that might perform in a few years. The Hawks window isnt open indefinitely, you have to take advantage while you can before you turn into the current Red Wings.

I agree with what the others have said. I made a post maybe mid winter that I thought they should give him time after somebody said he wasn't looking so good. By April my opinion had change. He looked really bad the last few months. The cheap and versatile is good but he was lost at times. Panarin doing so well may have magnified his issues too.

I want you to look at the roster right now, and tell me they can win the cup.

The talent level is not there, I would of traded Shaw for some picks, and had this as a development year, and reload when Bicks was done.

Big picture vs small picture, and they will not win next year.

The roster for next season isnt done yet. Now they have some cap room and can make some moves to fill voids. Once Stan is done this offseason, we can discuss talent level and cup chances. I can confidently say that TT isnt going to be the one thing they miss to compete for a cup next year. Seeing the team he is now on, he might just fade away all together.

We can assume, Shaw is resigned for around $3mill per, which I want to say leaves like 6-7mill for like 4-5 spots. Unless another blockbuster trade is made, fill the rest of the roster will rookies, maybe if they are lucky Brian Campbell.

Yes. All you need is to look at how the 2016 playoffs went. The two most talented teams were not in the Final; the teams that played the best overall defense through the playoffs were in the final. Once again, the argument was made for the winning goaltender as the Conn Smythe winner as opposed to the politcally correct choice.
