Starting tomorrow, the best golf tournament of the year. Many will argue that the best golf tournament of the year takes place in April, but I disagree. Best golf course is in April, best golf tournament is the US Open.

Nothing more enjoyable than once a year watching the best players in the world struggle to make par. And this year it's gonna be insane. It's almost universally held that this week the pros will play the toughest golf course in the history of the PGA tour. let that sink in for a minute.

Web Simpson called the greens "Augusta on steroids". I watched some fo the practice and those greens are insane. Rough is also insane at 4 inches.

Can't wait for tomorrow!

Agreed, it will be a lot of fun to watch. Complete opposite tournament of The Masters. Grinding out pars instead of knowing you have
some birdie holes coming up. Winning score likely to be well above par if conditions hold, although they are calling for rain early on
which could help the players some.

I live 5 miles away and it is really something around here. Friend of mine is working it and says it looks spectacular.

Phil said it's the toughest course that he has ever played.

DeChambeau tearing it up early. I'm rooting for him. I looked into getting single length irons like 10 years ago but lost interest and maintained my commitment to mediocrity.

-5 thru 13 for the leader? I thought everyone was already crying uncle before this started because the course might be the hardest ever on tour. Did the rain just slow down the greens that much?

The course is playing ridiculously difficult. -3 is the leader, and only 7 of 78 on the course are below par.

A lot of rain. Really a lot. The local news showed them working like crazy for tomorrow. I imagine the greens only mildly slower as they are such a special cut.

These greens are very unforgiving. It appears MANY are having trouble putting or even landing the approach shots close to the pin.

D Johnson in the lead, but they are looking into a moving ball on the 5th green to see if he dislodged it in his warm ups.

Just announced, the penalty stroke is pending completion of the round -- they want Dustin to watch it as well to determine if there are possibly any other events that could have caused it to move. Dustin now knows he needs to finish up by 2 in order to win. USGA pretty convinced it was DJs actions that caused the dislodgement.

After watching that close up video I don't see how they can say he did anything to cause the ball to move.

Buck brings up a good point -- DJ knows about it, but the group chasing him may not -- they are going to check to see if the other players have been informed.

I agree that the video does not provide conclusive evidence of moving the ball. He brought an official over who agreed with him at the time, so it seems like it would be a very tough call to say he definitively moved the ball.

Confirmation that all groups are aware of the possibly pending penalty.

It's either a penalty or it isn't. WTF is with this waiting?

Sergio is absolutely buried in the trap here -- you can see about half of a dime of the balls surface.. has to drop.

Commentators agree -- "This is ridiculous in my opinion" -- of course I don't know who the commentators are because this is FOX and not CBS.

That's what Azinger just said. What other sport would wait until all play is finished before deciding who won?

USGA not exactly working to improve their reputation today.

They should have made a ruling when he went to mark his score for that hole.

I know the NFL doesn't really know what a catch is. I never thought I'd see a situation where golf wouldn't know what's a fucking penalty and what's not.

Just another example of our society going to hell in a handbasket.
