I forgive you. You aren't old enough to have seen David Thompson or the Iceman in their primes.

I didn't but I doubt I would change my opinion. AI was 6 foot nothing and about 160 pounds.

Bernard King had no knees.

Not his entire career.

Jordan and Jabbar could score anytime they wanted.

I still can't forget waiting to find out who had won the scoring title back in 78-79ish. David Thompson went nuts and dropped 71-73 to take the lead, and in a later game Gervin went off for 60+ to get the title. They may have hit the easiest 40s I can remember.

Besides, MJ's hero was the Skywalker (but w/o the nose candy). Telling.

I was amused watching Aguirre even stumble across half court and play a tiny bit of defense on that team.

In summer league games I don't think he ever moved off of 2-3 spots. Someone cracked him it for @DeLaSalle one summer, he responded with a bank account joke and everyone went home laughing.

I was there that day. He grabbed gym bag and walked out after the 3rd quarter. It was a playoff game and the guys ran 4 clear outs at Aguirre to open the game. They were saying he was old and couldn't guard this guy by the name of Frank Hampton. Frank was a little local guy that played a little college ball. Aguirre was probably 2-3 yrs removed from the league so they thought they were going to embarrass him. Aguirre pointed to the top of his head after they went at him and 3 point and oned the guy. From there it was on. He dropped about 35 in 3 qrts grabbed his gym bag and walked out the gym. It was only after doing his patented kick out 3 point jumpshot. It was funny as hell.

It had to be 110+ degrees/90% humidity in that gym & there couldn't have been one dry spot on either end of the court. A true display of Old Man Strength.

The other thing about Iverson was his teams were mostly losers for most of his career. That Philly team that he tool to the Finals probably doesn't make the playoffs during the 80's. The East was horrific that yr.

I hated that they "gave" him that nickname. It completely disrespected Thompson. At least the non-hype Skywalker Thompson.

Yeah but when someone says "pound for pound" aren't they implying that the little guy is better than the big guys? There is no basketball world where Iverson was or is the greatest scorer ever.

That's what elevated his greatness. He carried bums to the Finals and singlehandedly beat one of the greatest teams ever in Game 1.

That summer league at DE LA Sale used to be rocking. Hot as hell but the games used to be on point. I remember watching Hardaway drop 74 in there. I remember a team with the high school class of 91 all Americans on it. Glenn Robinson, Juwan, Boyce, Finley, Klein Schmidt,. It's also the place where I saw a fresh out of high school Garnett first play. He was destroying guys in there.

Kenny did have the good Bart Simpson hair though. Got to give him that.

And I thought MJ was always partial to Connie Hawkins. Am I mis-remembering that?

I think people forget how much better the basketball was in late 80's and early 90's.

I know you understand what "pound for pound" means. It's harder for little guys to score in general. Bigger and stronger players are more successful. AI did it in a way that's never been done and in an era where bigs still mattered.

That's why I give Isaiah so much credit. He had to get through Boston and L.A. in order to win. He could have arguably won 4 championships in a row. The ankle game was one but the yr before he made the bad in bound to lose a game and in game 7 Dantley and Vinnie bumped heads and knocked each other out. Pistons proceeded to lose to Boston. 80's early 90's NBA product was so much better.

Isiah wad a douche, but he was a bad motherfucker on the court. There were a lot of 4th quarters where he looked unstoppable. One of the first dominant dudes I remember.

There have been other little guys that were shoot first and scored a lot of points. To say that he was unique is giving him to much credit. He may be the best at it but he wasn't the only one to ever do it. Plus Iv rerson was another one they used to hide on Defense. Those bums as you call them, Snow and McKie, used to take the cover so that wouldn't have to.

No doubt. He was an effective leader too. He would smile and pat you on the back but would put the knife to your throat whenever he felt that it was necessary.

I know what it means. When someone says so and so is the best pound for pound boxer they're saying they are the best regardless of weight no?

Now if you want to say Iverson was the best scorer for a little man (by NBA standards) then I can agree. But there's no way he's the best pound for pound anything in the history of the NBA.

He thoroughly dominated guys at his position. Gave Stockton 40 plus once could be twice after the Olympic snub and Malone got mad and split him open for it. He was on his last legs at that point and still dominated Stockton.

AI was unique. He scored points in a way that guys his size had never done and he sustained that level of play. AI wasn't a great on the ball defender but he knew how to play passing lanes.

Malone almost killed him and Cartwright wanted to.

And he may have dominated Stockton on occasion, but Stockton wasn't that far behind him on court wise. Hell, I think Stockton would've fit in nicely on those Piston's teams. They might not win two but I think they get at least one with him.

Isaiah may have been the only little guy in history to lead his team to a championship. He also unlike Curry did it in an Era where bigs were still dominant. Curry I guess goes in there but he wasn't even the best on his team at the time and he is doing it in Era where bigs are nonexistent. Isaiah had to beat all time great teams with multiple hall of famers on them. Never a Stockton fan. I always thought he was overrated.

We know that a guy like Holyfield would destroy any of the Sugar Rays or a guy like Mayweather in a head to head fight primarily because he was bigger and stronger. Most of us believe that they were better than Holyfield.

Iverson's scoring ability for his size is more impressive that Jordan's IMO. That's why I consider him to be the greatest pound for pound scorer in the history of the league.
