I just looked up 3 post-draft evaluations for 2014 and every single one of them gave the Sixers an A or higher. Again I think Embiid's upside was such that it made the risk worth it. He was the obvious choice at that position and if they did trade down he'd have been scooped up immediately. There's a difference between picks that don't work out and utterly bad picks, and I think trying to paint Embiid as the latter is revisionist. I'd be more comfortable with that as my first round decision, than, say, trading up for Doug McDermott in that same draft.

You make some good points Zeph. We do have the benefit of hindsight. My only counter is probably half the NBA "draft experts" out there know as much, or just a tad bit more than us about these players. Their research probably consists of YouTube videos and Chad Ford mock drafts tbh. Personally, I would not have taken him. I thought this as soon as I heard Embiid had a stress fracture.

Agreed, the McBuckets trade was unforgivable, but we have to live with the fact Reinsdorf has an infatuation with GarPax for whatever reason. I don't trust them to make the right call, but it's who the Bulls fans are stuck with.

I think the McDermott trade was awful and said so at the time. Just a dumbass move. But we can just agree to disagree on Embiid. I would've taken Exum probably, who might not turn out to be any good but will at least play. I don't think it's revisionist to say Embiid was a very risky pick.

The Jrue Holiday trade was good. The MCW trade wasn't. I don't think there's much there outside of that Holiday trade that stands out as impressive. If you want to say he's better than GarPax, I don't agree but I also don't like GarPax enough to argue about it. I want them gone too. But if they replace them with Hinkie we are pretty well fucked until 2025.

Sacramento is a horrible example. They are in bizarro land by themselves.

Utah's rebuild has actually been pretty successful. They're set up really nicely before their black guys GTFO out of weirdoville.

Yeah I missed this from LTG... Utah's rebuild has gone very well. LTG what are you talking about here? Sacto blows. Small market. Mongloid owner. Incompetent front office. Best player is a petulant child. I'll give you the Kings, but they don't seem to even have a plan for anything.

Utah has been in rebuild mode since they traded Deron Williams for Derrick Favors. That was about 5 years ago I believe. They have yet to make the playoffs. Their top two players would be the 4th best player on Cleveland, OKC, G.S., and the Clippers. I don't know how their rebuild is considered successful. Their young "talent" consists of a bunch of role players. None of them have ever made an all star team and aren't even under consideration. They will make the 7th or 8th seed in the West at best.

Most of their players haven't fully developed right? They actually have a decent coach now after Sloan left. They could pass the Grizzlies and Mavs this year. Sure 7 or 8 seed, but it's a start. Like KW said in a market like Utah, it's actually impressive how much talent they have accumulated and maintained.

I think 7th or 8th seed will be their zenith.

I think 7th or 8th seed will be their zenith and then they will begin to fizzle in ensuing years.

We'll see. With Doc in charge of the Clips who knows how long that ship can stay afloat. OKC could be in serious trouble if they lose Durant and Westbrook. If Leonard or Aldridge go down idk what SA will play like post Duncan era. The cards are tilted in favor of MN and Utah to take significant leaps if they develop properly.

It sucks to see Noah go. The guy was much better than even his biggest fan would've ever expected. And it sucks even more that he and Rose were not on the floor at the same time when each was at their best.

That being said, I can't offer him a long term deal starting at 18 mil a year considering his age and health issues. That's Isaiah Thomas level thinking right there.

Big fan of Noah's. But I still sorta wanted to see him end up on the Cavs, for half-a-season at least.

I think that NY is so bad as a franchise that they have to drastically overpay in order to acquire even players of Noah's caliber. Cost of living may play a role in overpaying for players also.

That's true.

How do you think the Knick offense is going to look and flow this season?

By hiring Hornacek are they dumping the triangle for good?

If Noah is healthy the Knicks are going to be pretty good.

That's a big if, but getting away from the Bulls medical and training staff could do him wonders.

I think they are done with the triangle. Hornacek isn't a Phil hire. He wanted Rambis. Hornacek likes to play uptempo. He runs a lot of high screen roll stuff so that should benefit Rose greatly. Bledsoe and Dragic has career yrs in his system. I wonder who the 2 guard is going to be. I may have gone Whiteside instead of Noah at the 5 but Noah is a good get provided he stays healthy. Their starting 5 will be solid but I don't know if they will be able to fill out their bench with anything of substance.

I love Noah but I'm not giving him $18M a year. Maybe Phil sees something that I don't see.

I doubt Noah does much, but signing a great passing big man does not indicate that they want to leave the triangle.

Hiring a coach that has no history of playing or coaching it does. Noah has never played in the triangle either. A great passing center is not exclusive to playing in the triangle either. Rumor was that even Fisher didn't want to run it. Rose isn't a triangle offense point guard either.

Phil liked Hornacek and realizes he needs to modify. The triangle isn't completely going away though. Overpaying Noah doesn't make sense though.

This as is Rose is a James Dolan move. He is paying Phil about 12 mil a yr and wants more bang for his buck. He allowed Phil to do it his way for 2 yrs with minimal results so he wants to make a splash. Phil is not making the final call on these moves, Dolan is.

With the skyrocketing cap, lots of players will be overpaid. $18M is the new $10M.

I understand the Rose move for the Knicks and I understand wanting Noah BUT not paying him that much. I would be shocked if Phil allowed Dolan to tell him how to do his job. Phil appeared to be doing a great job of getting rid of awful contracts and hit a home run with his draft pick. His first choice in Steve Kerr was clearly the right move but Fisher was a problem.

This is where the Bulls will be within the next 2 years if they're not at that point in the eyes of free agents already.

Phil Jackson was rumored to want Rambis and even lied about having a great relationship with Hornacek. Hornacek stated that the only time in his life that he had ever spoken to Phil was in passing after the 98 finals ended. Kerr may not have been a good choice. Having bad talent would have rendered Kerr to be a bad coach.
