Can buy up to 4 tickets for the Wednesday practice round. Is it worth spending the $$ for air and hotel to walk Augusta? Is there a market for practice round tickets?

Congrats.

I got the tourney round reject email a couple of weeks ago, so I am highly anticipating the practice round reject email any time now.

If you are into golf at all it is well worth the trip to say you did it and see what all the fuss is about. I went in 2008 and have been trying to get tickets again since then
with no luck at all. One of the toughest in sports to get. If you are considering selling them I would be interested in buying. Trying to go with my dad one more time.
You will have no trouble unloading them if that is what you choose to do. Congratulations.

Not for practice rounds.

Stay on Columbia SC. Easy drive to the course, and its a cool little town. Lots to do, and $200 a nite cheaper there.

Wednesday's practice round + par 3 tourney can be pricey, depending on who plays in the par 3.

The closer to the tournament date you sell, the better your price. Prolly get a third to 50% of that price selling this early.

Quote:
The club does release a small amount of single-day badges via a lottery, but that has done little to curb demand. Even badges for Wednesday's practice round and Par 3 Contest went for about $2,500. To get the full four-day package was about $7,500.

Good suggestions. Thanks everyone. Bought all 4. Got a suite at a Hampton in Columbia for $159 per night for my wife and me which didn't seem too bad. But even there some of the hotels were already sold out so I am glad I didn't wait.

Flying in and out of Greenville / Spartanburg, about 90 minutes from Columbia but airfare was half the cost of Columbia. Atlanta seemed too far so I didn't bother.

I am waiting to hear if my brother is going to take the other two but if for some reason family or friends aren't interested I'll check back here before putting them on the open market.

I'm not usually lucky in lotteries so this must mean they are not an impossible "get." I hope it works out sometime for the rest of you guys.

Enjoy every second of it. Go to the zoo in Columbia. It was really nice and there is a real pretty botanical garden attached to it. The Congaree Vista is a great shopping area too.

The best tip I can give is leave your hotel about 530 on Weds, get the course, do your shopping at the merch tent right away. Then you can check your bags right next door and pick them up as you leave, or box everything up and FedEx them home as they have all of the packing stuff right there

You can't get closer than that? We stayed in Aiken SC (hometown of the Fridge!). It's 20 minutes away.

Just booked my airfare. Looking forward to taking my wife and having my dad show us around. He knows so much
about the property it will be like having a private tour guide. Will be a special opportunity to spend the time with
my dad out there. He is giving up his gig at Augusta this spring.

I know you've mentioned it before, but what did he do at Augusta?

He retired back in 2005 and lives about 20 minutes from the course. He started his career over there as a caddy. There were a number of
other retirees that lived in his community that were doing it so he got his foot in the door pretty easily. I am not sure how easy it is to just
start caddying there, but it seems pretty easy. Anyway he did that for about 5 years until he was 60 and had about enough of hoofing a
bag on those hills. He was offered a job being essentially a glorified parking attendant. He essentially picks up members from the parking
lot and carts them to wherever they want to go whether that is the clubhouse, driving range or even one of the cabins if they are staying
on the property. He knows many of the members, and they know him as well which is kind of cool. He has a lot of good stories about
people he talks to out there. I think his favorite is Condi Rice. My dad was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago and they are moving
out of the area so he decided to work this one final year. At the end of the season before the Masters they give him a free 7 day pass so
he comes and goes as he pleases which is a pretty incredible perk.

Just bumping this up so that other threads aren't derailed and I am sure a lot of chatter about the field will start coming out during this week.

if you splurged for a 4k TV and have a great internet connection, you may be able to watch a few holes in 4k

http://www.masters.com/en_US/news/artic ... ality.html

edit: oops, this is from 2016 so may not apply this year

I know someone who purchased a 4K TV recently and they are convinced that at least some portion of the Masters will be broadcast in 4K.

Looking like kinda sketchy weather down there for Masters week. 90% chance of rain with thunderstorms on Monday when I have
practice day tickets. My hopes now are that we are able to hustle and see most of the course by around noon and if it starts to
thunder and lightning and they close the course at least we will have seen a lot of it. I will be really disappointed if the weather
keeps us off the course altogether. Will be a big loss all around.

On a lighter note they played an hour recap of the 1997 Masters last night on Golf Channel. Was fun to see a really young Tiger
and some of the old players from the late nineties on the leaderboard including Tom Kite and Tom Watson.
