Matt Greene, Dennis Seidenberg, and Thomas Vanek have all been bought out. I can't help but take an interest in those names as reclamation projects.

Rumor is that Subban gets awful excited in the locker room. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

James Wisniewski bought out of the Carolina Country Club. SIGH, ANOTHER EX-BLACKHAWK ON THE SCRAP HEAP, STAN BOWMAN!

(I'd take him at league minimum.)

Again strong likelihood Ladd goes to the Islanders. Okposo to the Sabres and Eriksson to the Canucks. Confirmation will come after paperwork

I'd take Wiz back as a 3rd pair guy in a second if he came cheap. (For the 40-50 games he's healthy)

Red Wings poach Dane Frans Nielsen from the Islanders. Nielsen should be good for a few extra standings points, given his prowess at the shoot out.

Islanders gonna play Ladd at Center? Or shuffle lines around otherwise to replace Nielsen.

The Lucic and Backes contracts are ghastly. I don't trust the term on Eriksson, either.

Haha, the Blues brought David Perron back. That's the ticket. Blues are dumb.

with Stamkos + Hedman $16.mil together, now this, Bolts out of cap space.

Yzerman should unload Bishop to Toronto for prospects or Carolina for draft picks. Sending Bishop to Dallas puts him in the other conference; but a good chance the Stars end up in the Finals next year if they get Bishop in goal.
Bolts could use a reliable backup goalie coming back. And the Stars would be game to eat part of either Lehtonen's or Niemi's salary to swap em out for Bishop.

Quote:
TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to a three-year contract extension worth $3.5-million per season, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced today.
Vasilevskiy, 21, appeared in 24 games with the Lightning last season, posting a record of 11-10-0 to go along with a 2.76 goals-against average and .910 save percentage. The Tyumen, Russia native also posted one shutout in his second season with the Lightning. Vasilevskiy played in eight Stanley Cup playoff games in 2016, registering a record of 3-4 to go along with a 2.76 goals-against average and .925 save percentage. He appeared in all seven of the Lightning’s Eastern Conference Final games against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The 6-foot-3, 207-pound goaltender has appeared in 40 career NHL games, all with the Lightning over the past two seasons, registering a record of 18-15-1 to go along with a 2.60 goals-against average and .913 save percentage. Vasilevskiy has played in 12 Stanley Cup playoff games in his career, including two in the Stanley Cup Final against the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015.
Vasilevskiy was originally drafted by the Lightning in the first round, 19th overall, at the 2012 NHL Draft.

Stars are the team that'll crash and burn next year. They blew their Cinderalla chance this year.

really? Even if they stand pat on goaltenders to start the season, Stars still have pretty much everyone significant back for next season. Fiddler provided some leadership but not a big loss at all. And they'll likely make a deal by the trade deadline for some sort of goaltender upgrade-if not sooner.

Picking up Dan Hamhuis, a low-scoring blueliner, makes sense for a team not looking for much in the way of scoring from its defense.

I think the Blues window closed. Elliott gone. Brouwer and Backes--2 of their best guys in the playoffs, both gone. Coach on a no-confidence 1 year deal. And the Blues are shopping Shattenkirk for entry-level prospects.

Islanders offered similar money to their guys, Frans Nielsen and Kyle Okposo, and they chose to sign elsewhere. Nielsen even took one less year than the Islanders reportedly offered to sign with the WIngs. Maybe Nielsen prefers to be on the Euro/Scandinavian friendly Detroit roster vs the canuck-heavy Isles.

I can't say whether it's been a dealbreaker for these guys, but I don't think Isles players have been happy with the new arrangement of living and practicing in Nassau and commuting to Brooklyn. I'm sure lots of teams train in the 'burbs, but apparently this Barclays thing has been a unique pain in the ass for everyone involved.

The Isles have traditionally been pretty North American in their roster construction. I like stuff like that, organizations having lasting characteristics. The dynasty teams were very heavy on guys from the Prairies: Trottier, Goring, the Sutters, et al. To this day one can find pockets of Long Island partisans in places with names like "Deer Tit, Saskatchewan."

yeah, unless you're coming on the train, Barclay's is shit to get to. Isles have an opt-out of their 25 year deal with Barclay's after 4 years. Some talk of moving them out to Queens--Willets Point area next to Citi Field and the USTA facility out there. That area would be easier for the Islanders traditional Long Island, CT and beyond fan base to get to.

Red Wings steal Vanek on a 1 year deal.

Steve Ott tho? I guess they want some sandpaper to help protect Larkin and the other young players, who have a bit of "wuss" rep. but it'd be better if they just told Larkin et al to man up and drop the gloves once in a while. Ott's just gonna rack up penalty minutes and take ice time/a roster spot away from their younger forwards--until he gets injured and is sidelined for the season.

A short name like "Ott" is going to look a little weird in the Wings' lettering style, but that's the least of his problems. I liked the time Backes ratted him out for loaning him some Percocets.

Queens makes more sense for the Islanders if only because it would be a purpose-built facility and would allow ticketholders to see the game they paid to go to. What a concept. That dickhead who runs the Nets told people to just watch the games on their smartphones and quit bitching. Oh, another thing, a new arena in Queens would mean no longer being run by the Nets.

The Isles also lost Matt Martin to the Leafs, which hurts their vaunted fourth line. Of course, a fourth line usually shouldn't be vaunted in the first place. B's keep John-Michael Liles, who seems like he's been around the NHL forever without ever meaning anything. Our old friend Viktor Stalberg is off to the Carolina Country Club for a million and change, a perfect place where he can BE FAST and do shit else.

Bishop speculation, Stars/Blues/Canes

http://lightningshout.com/tampa-bay-lig ... takes.html

Forgot the Leafs brought in Andersen from the Ducks. They are likely out on Bishop; despite all the talk about Toronto being one of the interested teams. Maybe Toronto's involved in the talks to take either Niemi/Lehtonen with the Stars eating some of their salary in a 3 team deal. Leafs need a back-up for Andersen.

If Bishop was able to make enough of a fuss to nix a trade to Calgary, I don't see him being agreeable to getting dumped in Carolina.

If Bishop wants to go to a team that's going to give him a long-term extension, then it's Dallas or bust. Cuz St Louis just extended Jake Allen.

Nah, players love Raleigh because it's just a bunch of golf courses. There's no better place to live in a bubble. Problem is the Country Club Canes already committed to yet another two years of Cam Ward on top of two more years of Eddie Lack. I suppose they can probably move Lack at under $3MM, but there's also the whole issue with the Canes being cash-strapped because the owner's sons are suing him for cleaning out their trust funds.

Even after moving Bishop, isn't extending Kucherov going to cost them Johnson or Palat?

Florida sends Dave Bolland's contract and 2015 11th overall Lawson Crouse to -- where else? -- the Coyotes in exchange for a conditional 2nd (becomes a 3rd if Crouse isn't on the roster after nine games) and guaranteed 3rd in 2017.

Players the Coyotes are paying (or pretending to pay) not to play for them:
Dave Bolland: LTIR ($5.5MM for three years)
Antoine Vermette: bought out ($1.25MM for two years)
Pavel Datsyuk: defected ($7.5MM for one year)
Chris Pronger: LTIR ($4.9MM for one year)
Mike Ribiero: bought out ($1.44MM for four years)

Grand total of dead cap for 2017 season: $20,635,873

CBA'S JUST FINE

New Jersey is terminating a prospect's contract because he was convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl. That's hockey, baby!
