He started off by saying that fans are only upset when NBA players get huge contracts. Nobody cared when bums like Mike Hampton and Kevin Brown (yes, he called those guys bums) got big money, or that Scott Gomez and Hossa got twelve year deals. It took him until 9:11 to finally spit out that the NBA is 74% balck, and that's why casual sports fans (read: Whitey) don't like the big deals.

I've tuning into ESPN 1000 the last few weeks. It sucks, but at least it isn't that load of garbage. And I used to like Goff and Spiegs, just not together.

People always bemoan athlete contracts. I can't believe what starting pitchers are getting paid for a such a risky (health) position on the diamond. And the majority of those big pitcher contracts are to white guys.

Goff as usual is mistaken in his criticism.

There was shock and awe when Stanton received his contract but eventual acceptance. Stanton is the best pure slugger in MLB.

A player like Mike Conley received one of the highest contracts in recent NBA history simply due to poorly designed rules.

The whining is the individual artificial ceiling forcing teams to fuck themselves.

Pretty much anyone in the NFL besides QB's that gets big money is not white.

There is some truth to what he's saying. I think that the problem that the overwhelming majority of the people have is the contracts don't make sense in the NBA system. No one really cares when it comes to MLB because huge contracts makes sense in their system.

The main reason people don't get as concerned about big contracts in baseball- especially in large markets- is that there is no cap. A bad contract in hoops is going to hamstring your team. The Mets are still paying Bobby Bonilla and it isn't stopping them from sweeping the greatest team in history.

The other reason people focus on basketball players switching teams (in addition to the money) is because basketball is viewed through the prism of individual players. It is the only sport (aside from maybe a QB in football) where one person changing teams changes the entire landscape of the league. In any other sport, a star changing teams doesn't automatically change anything.

The general public have issues with these contracts because they see sports as a game and believe their jobs are difficult. It's been this way for about 40 years and it won't change. Some guy will make damn near $100M a year in the next 30 years.
