They just opened a new Binny's at Touhy and Lincoln. I went in there tonight to buy some red Burgundy and there was a security guard who looked like he was ready to invade Fallujah. I'm not exaggerating. I couldn't help but laugh. Almost in his face. I asked the guy checking me out, "Is this guy for real?" The two guys in line started cracking up. I think the guy heard me. He gave me a dirty look. Fucking ridiculous. If it's that dangerous to come in your store maybe I should be purchasing my vino at Schaefer's.

don't recall seeing visible security all that often at the one in the South Loop, Jefferson and Roosevelt, or at the one up on Grand near Franklin.

They lock the front-door to Jefferson after maybe 8 pm? at the South Loop location. Otherwise, the security's pretty low-key there. Maybe around closing time a guy stands at the top of the escalators out to the parking lot.

You get dirty looks from security when you look like a bond villain.

I'm engaged to Mr. Ross' niece. I'm probably gonna be taking over this whole place someday, so if I were you, I would stay on my good side.

Not a huge fan of Binnys, but I have liked some commercials.

Binny's is fine. And sometimes you can go into one and there will be a wine that you don't usually see in a Chicago liquor store. I just found a guy in jackboots strapped with three weapons and ten clips of ammo around his waist at first disconcerting and then utterly absurd and comical. I considered e-mailing Binny's about it, but I'll let them find it here. A business needs to weigh its security needs against the image it wants to project to its customers. I often have that thought when I am in the long security lines at Sox Park and then again when there are German shepherds on the outfield concourse. If this place is really that dangerous, maybe I want to be some place else. Somehow Schaefer's and Knightsbridge manage to survive without some goof who looks like he is ready to fight the Battle of Kamdesh.

Binny's is that indie band that blew up and got popular. back in the early 2000's, i loved Binny's selections. But a lot of those can now be found in just about any liquor store, including Jewel(s). I can still get Zombie Dust from Binny's if I'm sly enough to get in on a Thursday around where I live, but sometimes it's too much of a hassle. I also like their scotch selection, and that they have Oban (the best I've ever had).

it's a good atmosphere, but there are so many silver foxes and dames, i always feel out of place. i actually prefer the blue collar mike nort style liquor stores.

Every time I've been there, Binny's River North always has an old guy sitting by the entrance. He's never mean-mugged me, though.

What's not to like? They have the biggest selection and the lowest prices.
