our office is full of them. its great to spite them. not just ketchup but any food. like a food isn't truly X unless its exactly so.

nevermind guffahing at chain restaurants. its awful.

we grilled steaks for everyone a year or so ago just as a good gesture thing. "these are good but have you had SOUS VIDE its the only way to have a steak anymore. " These chucklenuts brought in a sousvide machine (homemade) and proceeded to feed us the blandest ny strips imaginable. i didnt' even know how it was possible. they used propane torches to "crust" the outside of them... a little salt and pepper went along way. everyone made sure they knew that it was bad.

anyway,

the best hot dog on the planet, is a save-a-lot brand hot dog burnt to a crisp on a cheap warmed up bun. no condiments

Biggie never would have tolerated this pro/agnostic ketchup movement.

I hope we can all agree that people who say "Cat-sup" should be beheaded by ISIS.

you order a hot dog with eveything and it doesn't have ketchup. how do you even find out what a hot dog with ketchup tastes like?

While we are talking condiments -- I am generally anti-mayo. I like tuna salad, but I can't watch someone make it. But one that has just blown my mind lately is chipolte mayo. And it goes on every sandwich, burger, dog, etc. and tastes great with all of them.

Anyone else do this?

I like the taste of sport peppers, but not the texture. My HD order is mustard, onion, relish and peppers and then I will remove the peppers, cut them open and sqeeze out the juice onto the hot dog. So I get the heat from the peppers without having the texture.

I do the same thing with giardinara. Get it on a sandwich, but then remove it so I just have the juice.

And as for ketchup, only acceptable if you're under 10 years old.

IMO, peppers dominate too much and have an unflattering hard texture. I'd rather have the essense of peppers accenting the food than the actual peppers dominating the food.

Not really, just that I'm making my own hot sauce, one squeezed out sport pepper at a time.

Never cared for them on hot dogs, but when I get a corned beef from a local place, they give out peppers and I do the same thing. Good eating.

This discussion brought back memories of when I was maybe 5 and my mom would cut up hot dogs for me and I'd dip them in ketchup. I feel nauseous thinking about that. What a shitty meal. DCFS, where were you?
[another anecdote from the 99% for denis]

The best hot dog I've had is from a street vendor next to trianos pizza on archer ave near oak park. The guy puts cut up fresh cucumbers in addition to the standards which is a nice touch. Try it if you are ever in that area.

I never even tried sport peppers on a dog until a few years ago.

I never realized how much they enhance the flavor. It is not necessarily the flavor of the pepper that helps but it just seems to open the taste buds to all the other wonderful flavors on a dog with everything.

I bite the pepper and hold it upside down while taking a bite of the dog. I then hold the dog as vertically as possible and pour the pepper juice into the opened meat and let it sink in. I will do the same with subsequent pepper but sprinkle the juice on the horizontal side of the dog.

Eating is a ritual.

"My guy" with the archer ave stand also hooks you up on the sport peppers. I get 5-6 small ones so there's one in every bite. Everywhere else I have to take them off and eat them separately.

For me biting the hot dog and then the pepper separately is the ritual but its nice to have the perfectly prepared hot dog.
