North's White Sox bid a goner
By Ed Sherman
Tribune sports media columnist

December 14, 2005, 9:53 PM CST

Mike North still thinks he could handle the load of being the morning man at WSCR-AM 670 and work a full slate of White Sox games. Nevertheless, he pulled out of the derby to become the Sox's new radio analyst Wednesday.

Former Sox pitcher Tommy John appears to be the front-runner, but the team and WSCR maintain no decision has been made. With his morning program showing sharply improved ratings, North and the station thought it would be best if he concentrated on his day job.

"I was really torn," said North, who will have some role in Sox broadcasts. "Doing the Sox games would be a dream job. But doing a morning drive in Chicago also is a dream job. I couldn't let my ego get in the way and try to do both."

Wow, what a stand up guy! He decided that the show that enables him to make 1.7 million a year deserves his attention. What a sacrifice he's making. Giving up his "dream job" to slum it on the morning shift, and beg people to buy his CD (it's all for PAWS you know). Man, I'm glad he didn't let his ego get in the way. Thursday, 5:00, B&B, who ya crappin'!

Where are these ratings? KS, didn't you say this info was unavailable - a show by show breakdown?

Methinks Pappy has a few friends in the newspaper business (not that he shouldn't or that other guys 10+ years in the biz don't...). This isn't the first time Sherman has taken a dump and called it a column, and it certainly won't be the last.

Eddie is a joke compared to Teddy Greenstein.

Seems like the Chapter 2 of Sherman's war vs B&B, or should I say Episode 2 of the Ed Sherman Comedy Police Extravaganza. Dump on B&B props to North, divide and conquer method. Every trick in the book will be used to shut B&B up on Santo before the Cub baseball season is back on the GN blowtorch. Just protecting their brand.

So North is pulling out of a job that he wasn't going to get anyway? big deal. If they were going to hire him, it would have been announced already. Nice PR move Mike.

If you watched closely there was never a quote from a White Sox representative that he was ever in the running. This was all a PR creation from Pappyland.

Let me see if I have this right. North decided to bow out of the Sox broadcasting job because he thinks it wouldn’t be fair to his morning program. Didn’t he brag when his name came up how he would be the only guy who could do this feat of a morning program and Sox games? Now he is worried about fair? I don’t hate North, but he is becoming a very unlikable person. Here is how I think it actually went down.

North was told no and since he was going on vacation, they told him to say he was stepping out of the running and by time he gets back, no one will remember. Mike then sent a check to his monkey boy Sherman to write some BS about his improving ratings, which of course is a lie.

I would assume that Management is starting to get itchy about North, bad ratings, bad show, bad attitude and now they can’t even get there so called “main guy” a job with the Sox. To me, the handwriting is starting to appear on the wall for North and that’s a shame because not to long ago, he had something, but he made the mistake of letting the money go to his head.

The ratings are available to subscribers on a show-by-show basis, by 3-hour blocks and even hour-by-hour. We need a radio insider (Or even Rock!!) to furnish the numbers.

By the way, I would like to take this opportunity to tearfully announce that I have taken my name out of the running as a candidate for the Republican party in the upcoming Gubernatorial primary.

Maybe Ed Sherman will write an article about that now, Shmedley
