I agree with everything Rozner said today about the Cubs. They should be doing everything they can to trade for Santana, even if you have to give up alot. He mentions Pie and Veal, and then throwing in Hill, Samardzija, Murton and maybe Hart. Leaving a rotation of Santana, Z, Lilly, Marquis, and Marshall, with a chance of going after Livan if someone isn't cutting it. Then add Kenny Lofton for center, with Fukudome filling in on off days. And finally adding Brian Roberts for 2nd. Rozner says if they don't win this year, lots of heads will roll, sale or no sale.

If the Cubs were to acquire Santana, you can almost guarantee playoff baseball at Wrigley next October. And with the way the NL is right now, they probably would be among the favorites to go to the World Series.

But I don't see it happening. Money is probably an issue, even though Boston wouldn't seem to have a problem and they play in a old, small ballpark just like the Cubs. And their payroll is already about $30 million above the Cubs.

I also wonder if the Cubs have the prospects the Twins would want. Pie's stock probably has dropped, Murton is probably a fourth outfielder. Hill is a decent pitcher and Hart appears to be a nice prospect. Not sure how valuable Smardzija is right now? Is this enough, though, for the premier pitcher in baseball right now?
