White Sox to Attempt Guinness World Record for Dogs at Sporting Event
Chicago's South Side team is hoping to see 1,000 dogs in the stands at U.S. Cellular Field on Sept. 13.
By Tim Moran

CHICAGO, IL - Sitting a few games under the .500 mark, it’s unlikely the Chicago White Sox will be breaking any records on the field in 2016.

But they still have a chance to set a unique mark off the field.

In the stands, of all places, at U.S. Cellular Field.

The team announced Tuesday it will try to break a Guinness World Record for the most dogs in attendance at a sporting event.

The record-breaking attempt will take place during the Tuesday, Sept. 13, home game against the Cleveland Indians, which is also the annual “Bark at the Park” event. Fans who bring their furry friends to the game that day can sit in the outfield reserved area known as the “Dog Zone,” according to a team press release. They can stroll the outfield concourse with plenty of fire hydrant comfort station areas.

To set the record, fans will need to collectively bring 1,000 dogs to the park and be certified by a Guinness World Records adjudicator.

According to published information, there is no current record for most dogs at a sporting event. But at least 1,000 would be needed to set one. The Arizona Diamondbacks nearly set the mark earlier this season with 858 dogs in attendance for a game at Chase Field.

The White Sox are partnering with AvoDerm Natural Pet Foods, Nylabone and PetSmart for the promotion.

Tickets are available for $20 that night.

This is the stuff that makes me embarrassed to be a Sox fan.

He can stay at home; you and I can bring little rover.

You could say we'll do it doggy style that night.

This is minor league type stuff. But the Sox have a long tradition of this kind of thing. Everybody loves Bill Veeck and he was the king of it.

Exactly. This is fun. This is part of the White Sox experience. It's not much different than the fireworks after home runs or them singing in Wrigley for the 7th inning stretch.

The product on the field not so much.

It's smart that they are finally matching promotions with the product on the field.

Did one of the members of the band write a forward to one of your football interview books?
