Wow! I'm glad a guy you think is a Cy Young candidate can hold a poor hitting team going nowhere to a run less than it's scoring average. Maybe Quintana is a Hall of Famer after all.

1.5 R/9 rate, actually, so anywhere between 3 and 2 R/G, or between 25-50% of their average offensive output, the distribution centered on 36%.

Yeah, right. You're celebrating a "great" pitcher for seven decent innings against a terrible lineup.

Don't make this about me. I'm in the prime of my life. I'm just excited Quintana gave up 2 or fewer runs for the 18th time this year.

Yeah. It's all Quintana fault. You guys should feed him to the hounds.

I don't want him to die. Just go be unlucky somewhere else.

Good idea. You got a team that can't hit and can't field so why not weaken the starting pitching while you're at it and then they can't do anything.
You want more wins from Quintana it's simple. Surround him with a real baseball team.

i was hoping you'd be smart enough to know I was referring to a trade. It's ridiculous to suggest they should just release him, which seems to be what you're suggesting for some reason.

What the merry fuck are you talking about?

Yeah, right. You're celebrating a "great" pitcher for seven decent innings against a terrible lineup.

All offenses are pretty much the same. The difference between these offenses was a fraction of a run per game and you don't score fraction of runs in a game.

He was pitching against a weak lineup. As weak as the White Sox lineup you are always using to make excuses for Quintana. Maybe you should be making an excuse for Neal. After all, he didn't get much "run support".

Regardless, I've never said Quintana was a terrible pitcher, but if you're going to insist that he's a GREAT CY YOUNG CANDIDATE TOP TEN PITCHER IN BASEBALL as at least several people in this forum have, I think the bar should be a little higher than celebrating allowing two runs in seven innings vs. the A's.

Did I ever insist anything like that ever, jorr?
But damn 2 runs in 7 innings, a home run from a home run hitter... Dude. That's pretty darn good. I'm not sure how much more one could want.

He pitched an okay game yesterday. And he got the W next to his name. I guess we aren't arguing at all.

Quintana equally outpitched Jason Hammel yesterday. Why bring that up?

Of course they exist. It takes much longer than a single game to establish that fact though. Yesterday you had two teams that average right about 4 runs per game each. Quintana pitched better than Neal. I'm not sure what else there is to talk about, unless you want to lament the fact that Neal received minimal "run support".

He can't outpitch someone that is playing in a different game. And you've been taught- mistakenly- to believe he can. That's the whole crux of this argument.

What if you're the one who is mistaken? What if all of your views are just founded on some ancient logic?

Two people that are never on the field at the same time as each other are scarcely even playing in the same game.

This a a silly non-competitive view of the game that has been adopted by many because of the constant study of averages and numbers in isolation.

Tiger Woods shot an 85 in the Memorial last year. If Furious Styles shot an 80 on the same day while playing with Chus, Dr. Ken, and shakes, would you say he outplayed Tiger Woods? Because that's what you just did with Quintana and Hammel.

Because Quintana and Neal certainly did not.
