I have to be honest, if I was intoxicated in a foreign country and this happened to me I would think I was robbed.

Especially if you were as dumb as Lochte. I'm starting to think he wasn't lying. He was just fucked up.

That must have been a REALLY expensive poster on the wall.

From this the bigger lie is that the swimmers destroyed the bathroom. The media was quick to hang Lochte out to dry because he's a idiot. Sounds like it was lucky he was not shot.

It also should be pointed out that they wanted to take all of their passports away and the one guy had to pay over $10,000 to charity to get it back.

All this for what seems to be urinating behind a gas station and then a sign that got torn that sounds like it was the equivalent of a beer advertisement that the gas station probably got for free.

If they had just stayed in and smoked marijuana, none of this would have happened.

Matt Lauer should be fucking hanged for the witch hunt interview he did with Lochte the other night.

Lauer: Do you admit that you weren't robbed, that you were simply negotiating a settlment for the damage?
Lochte: No, I believe I was robbed.
a few questions later...
Lauer: So you weren't robbed were you?
Lochte: No, I believe I was robbed
later in the interview..
Lauer: (not asking a question, making a statement): Now that we know this wasn't a robbery...

Don't know how he finished that sentence cause I hit fast forward.

As for the incident: I don't care where you are or how drunk you are, tearing down a free poster outside wall on the side of a gas station NEVER warrants getting a gun pointed at your head.

that Lauer interview was laughably bad. i think he was looking to add something to his 60 Minutes audition tape with his hard-hitting aggressive interview. he honestly sounded like a principal scolding a naughty grade school kid. "What do you have to say to the people of Brazil, Ryan?" "Do you think you will do anything like this again, Ryan?" "Is there anything else you have to say for yourself, Ryan?". Fucking stupid interview. Lochte is an idiot but enough already, we get it. if anything, after that interview i was switching over to his side and wanted him to tell Lauer to fuck off, bitch.

Can someone tell me (as someone who hasn't followed one minute of this story) why this is a big deal? All I know is that an American swimmer was drunk, went somewhere he shouldn't, reported a robbery, but wasn't really robbed. Now it's some huge national story. What am I missing?

Because the networks news needs something to fill time between boner pill commercials.

He actually was robbed though.

It embarrassed Brazil on a national stage because now people think crime happens there. Also, the media was afraid they would be killed if they didn't act like Lochte was wrong.

yeah, it sounds to me like there was some extortion going on, but everyone is offended about Lochte embellishing the story instead of some gas station security guard strong-arming them into giving him all their cash. plenty of idiocy to go around, but Lochte lying about the gun to the head seems to have stolen the limelight.

I don't know if he was robbed or not- the fact they didn't take all their money suggests perhaps not- but everyone agrees he had a gun pulled on him and neither he nor any of the guys he was with spoke Portugese, in addition to being drunk as hell. It's certainly not unreasonable that they believed they were being robbed.

The problem is that there was no damage to the bathroom at all so any money they gave up for was for an "advertisement" on the wall. There is no way the value of replacing that was equal to what they paid. It seems likely it had no value at all. That's just me talking and as you know advertising doesn't work on me.

Also, if some guy points a gun at you and you're telling the story about it, it's not crazy to think you might say something like, "Damn! This guy put a gun to my head!" Remember, they never made an official police report that called for details. They told their families what happened and then were harassed by the Brazilian police after it was broadcast on TV.

Yeah, that's what I don't get. Who cares?

Well the social justice crowd is trying to spin it as everyone lost their shit about Gibby Haynes not putting her hand over her heart but there's nary a Terry Peeps about Lochte and what he did and the idle chatter that is out there is basically defending what Lochte did as " no big deal" ( cuz he's white, or as someone put it , he's the human personification of Wrigleyville) yet the black gymnast should be drawn and quartered.

A British athlete was robbed too, no news about that anymore though.

The only things Brazil really makes are shitty deathtrap airplanes and bodacious asses attached to impossibly beautiful female forms. Its a worthless country, this was supposed to be their moment (that they bribed the IOC to get) and they'll do anything to salvage their image of it. OTOH the USA is an empire that could've done the Olympics on a week's notice better than Brazil did after 8 years of preparations, so none of this really registers as anything more than a funny news item domestically.

The whole Olympics is officially a sham now where rotting colonial empires vie with Shitty Knockoff, The Country for a distant second place. The rest of the world was more than happy to try and cut Americans down a notch after the domination they just had to endure over the past month.

So yea, once again the USA takes all the jeering and laughs in stride. The benevolent empire.

Barely a peep? Idle chatter? It's all over radio and TV.

Defending what he did as "no big deal"? Nearly everyone refers to him as either an idiot and/or a liar and MANY have said he embarrassed, at the least, the American Olympic contingent or, at the most, the country as a whole.

The difference is though that Lochte appears to be an alright guy and teammate who got drunk and did something a little slightly worse than nothing wrong whereas Gabby Douglas is a total Caller Bob bitch.

My wife teaches gymnastics for a living and follows the sport very closely. As the olympics started she told me she was rooting for the US to win and Gabby to fall on her face and fail miserably. I thought that was odd since Douglas was America's sweetheart 4 years ago so I asked her why. She told me that Gabby is a massive bitch. So I started paying close attention to Gabby during the gymnastics and sure enough the signs were there. For starters, you could tell she was the 5th wheel on the team. Her teammates would embrace each other and hang out together throughout the meet whereas Gabby was always off to the side, never really involved. At one point she had her warm ups on and was just sitting off to the side while her 4 other teammates still had their leotards on (even the ones not competing) and were hanging out together the entire time. When things started going really well for USA I think Gabby realized she wa out of all the camera shots of the team so next time the showed her she had her warm up clothes off and was back in leotard and trying to hang out with the rest of the team, albeit still off to the side a bit.

Then when Simone was competing for floor in individual they showed the other US girls inthe stands watching..when she was done they shot up and gave Simone a standing ovation, well all except you know who who just sat there. Then you can see Aly give Gabby a dirty look and then Gabby stood up and joined in.

There were many other body language clues throughout the week that led me to accept that my wife was rigth, she really must be a total Caller Bob.

So ridiculously over the top. It's part of the cover-up for the IOC culture. Don't do anything to hurt "the brand" and media cheerleaders like her are 100 percent in on that message.

Yeah, she probably shouldn't have been on the team. She got a courtesy spot because she was Karolyi's golden girl in London. I can understand how she may have felt, but you've got to do a better job of hiding it than that. And this idea that there was somehow this racist hatred against her is just stupid. She was a hero and a darling four years ago. Biles is black too and she's the star of these games. If anything, it's Biles who is probably getting the short end just because she isn't as cute as Douglass and Raisman.

Brazil originally asked for $46k to give the passport back to one of the guys.

This whole thing is on Brazil. They should be embarrassed.
