I hope they aren't counting on Royal staying healthy. Mariani will be claimed by someone.

Mariani sucks, has sucked, and will continue to suck.

He can go screw.

Jim Miller is going to have to get some new shitty talking points. He went on and on about the importance of Jaquizz and the veteran leadership he brought to the team the other night. This was exemplified according to him when a Fales or Hoyer pass was tipped into the air and that critically important veteran leadership that jaquizz has is why he was aware enough to bat the ball down before it was intercepted. It was a good play but....one that is expected to be made. Miller should never be allowed to call a game no matter how unimportant the game is.

They told those receivers to have stone hands so nobody would want him and they could hide him on the practice squad.

I have paid zero attention to anything Bears related in the preseason.

Who is the new kicker now?

No one yet.

This may have been a cap move to free up space for the guard from Green Bay.

Ah. I just assumed they had brought into camp to be competition for him.

Nope...he was unopposed in camp.

Gould caught me by surprise. He did miss some XPs. I assumed they were bad holds.

The Bears signed veteran free-agent tight end Logan Paulsen and claimed center Eric Kush and cornerback Cre'von LeBlanc off waivers on Sunday.

Fales signed with the Ravens/Trestman practice squad.

wow damn, i was caught off guard by robbie gould being cut. obviously it's easy to look back with rosy colored glasses and remember "the most accurate kicker in NFL history" phase during his first 4-5 years, you know back when you didn't trust him to kick from 50+.... and then the people in the endzone holding up the bullseye targets for him after he said in an interview (on the score) that he often looks for something in the crowd to set himself up for the kick....

...but yeah i also seem to remember him blowing a couple'a games last year. funny that when i was looking at fantasy kickers today i saw that robbie had like ~7 50+ yd FGs so he really did go and add some leg over the years, but this quite possibly came at the expense of his accuracy (which obviously felll off over time). still, the happy medium years of the added leg + most of that accuracy = he was a pretty damn proper kicker for a good ~3-5 years there. however, i'm sure he was a pretty highly paid kicker at this juncture so once the accuracy started costing them games it was only a matter of time until this happened. and, of course, any chance pace gets to bring in one of his guys from nawleans = #SteakDinnerBOOM.

ah well c'est la vie.... i guess drafting gould earlier today = IT'S #LAMBOTIME BABY!

BREAKING BEARS NEWS: Kicker Robbie Gould cut, team signs All-Pro Packers LT Josh Sitton.

UPDATED:

Jeff Dickerson
ESPN Staff Writer

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bears have reached an agreement on a three-year contract with former Green Bay Packers guard Josh Sitton, a league source confirms.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports Sitton's new deal is worth $21.5 million and includes $10 million in guarantees.

The Packers released Sitton, a three-time Pro Bowl left guard, after being unable to trade him.

"We want to thank Josh for his contributions during his time in Green Bay. He has been an important part of the success we have enjoyed on the field," Packers general manager Ted Thompson said.

"While these decisions are never easy, this was done with a focus on what is best for the team and the growth of the offensive line. We wish Josh and his wife, Kristen, all the best in the future."

Sitton, 30, has started 110 of 112 Packers regular-season games since the beginning of the 2009 season.

Sitton's arrival shakes up the Bears offensive line. Rookie Cody Whitehair started at left guard the entire preseason, but the 2016 second-round pick has practiced some at center. Veteran Ted Larsen assumed the starting center positon when Chicago lost Hroniss Grasu to a season-ending torn ACL.

On Saturday, the Bears agreed to a four-year extension with right guard Kyle Long, who is pushing to return from shoulder injury in time for Chicago's Week 1 game at Houston.

Wasn't Gould the player's rep? The Bears don't seem to take kindly to negative talk of the organIzation. I thought he got a little mouthy there the last couple of years. And the play slipped a little too.

oh and uhhhh i don't really know anything about this guard from GB, but if the bears jumped on him that quickly (and likely pushing robbie gould out the door) hopefully he's at least pretty darn solid (tho it might say something about their 2nd round draft pick, huh?). of course bruce arians is crowing about how his o-line is better nowadays after their tackle came to the bears, and i literally saw d-johnson go #1 overall in a fantasy football draft today.... so uhhhh, hopefully all is not fucked here dude? yay bears?

I saw they picked up the guard the Packers had no use for. Whitehair not working out?

i vaguely remember a couple'a douche-chills moments with gould over the last few years; most notably i think there was a time where he was talking about "top players performing at the highest level" and he ended up comparing himself to m-jeff (michael jordan), right?

i didn't take the player rep thing into account but hey i'm sure that didn't help things (what with being a relatively/pricey kicker who str8up blew a couple'a games for you last year and all) --- this one's for you robbie!

obviously that's the first thought that comes to mind, but hey you never know if the bears technically rate sitton that high. going by this commenter on pro football talk i might have to dust off my shufflin' shoes in the near future.

bassplucker from Pro Football Talk wrote:
YESSS! The fact he made the Bears his first stop makes me think it’s where he wanted to sign all along. Kyle Long is known to get quite “active” in recruiting for the Bears and it wouldn’t surprise me if that came into play here too.

Sitton at LG, Long at RG and Whitehair or Larsen at C is an interior 3 that can do work in the run game and keep the pocket clean for Cutler.

Not to mention all the intel on the Packers DL schemes will be worth Sitton’s weight in… um… gold.

So Aaron… are ya nervous yet?

oh yeah one more thing: last season i couldn't help but refer to mariano as "that little white shit" whenever i saw him out there, and while there is a certain romanticism to the whole "rudy sanzenbacher" story (maybe people think that he's essentially their avatar out there on the field?) still.... GTFO YOU LITTLE WHITE SHIT!

Don't forget his rigid defense of those who protect kiddie diddlers...(JoePa).

Shit...after he shanked his 2nd game winner last year, I was done with him.
