Sitton was named second-team All-Pro in each of the last three seasons and hasn't missed a game since 2011. He has had back issues but worked diligently this offseason to drop 20 pounds, aiming to get to about 315. He was in the best shape of his career when training camp opened. The Packers released him instead of paying him $5.9 million this season in what was the final year of his contract.

Glad to see Gould gone, this new guard from Green Bay sounds like a real nice pick up.

So the Green Bay guard was just a salary dump by them? Was it that they drafted a younger kid.

entire pack o-line needs new paper this season, including sitton, and he was oldest/odd man out. TE Jared Cook and Eddie Lacey also need new deals done this year. so while the pack had ~$10 mil in cap space and Sitton was only ~$6 mil, cutting him gives them some cap flexibility to get these other deals done and check out the other linemen and decide to fish or cut bait with them before they hit free agency.

tried to trade sitton first, but he let it be known he needed a new deal right away from whomever he ended up with and that sorta killed his trade value. i imagine if he were willing to roll on a lame duck, 1 year remaining deal, Pack would've found a trade partner.

30 year old lineman with potential back problems chirping for a new contract, alongside a bunch of younger linemen also in new of new deals? Easier decision for the pack probably than it seemed at first blush.

If he stays healthy, great pick up for the Bear.

You can be our new NFL trade analysis guy when we roll out the new site someday. Well said and spot on.

So, you move down in the second round of the draft, passing up good defensive talent for your defensive oriented team and end up drafting "the best guard in the draft" but instead of letting him learn on the job for a middling team, you sign a stopg gap player to take his snaps

Good player development

Bears have a QB with a history of concussions and other injuries. Rodgers has historically still done well with a spotty, possibly learning on the job O-line [not that the pack's o-line will be terrible, but losing Sitton juggles it around some]. Cutler? you want all the experienced protection in front of him you can get. And Sitton can help coach up the rookie; so when Sitton's back sidelines him the rookie's ready to take his place. :D

I'm of the Rick mindset that this is going to be below .500 season. The better move would have been to get one of the couple of competent-good centers that were cut and let your guard show what he can do. There are plenty of guards who start as rookies. It should be the easiest ol line position

The Bears are probably going to be MANY games under .500 this season.

i just read somebody claim that sitton was released because of a "racist rant" he went on when the team was talking about colin kaepernick's protests and how some of the packers players want to join in. supposedly sitton got mad and ended up calling ha ha clinton dix a "typical [n-word]" and was surprised when the packers didn't stand behind him so maybe signing with the bears was some kind of FU to the packers?

really good chance it's just total conjecture/bullshit, but hey you never know.

Trestman really has a weird fascination with Fales.

It's bizarre.

Bad back is a red flag but the guy hasn't missed any games, he also came into camp in great shape and dropped weight in the off season...I like the pick up.

Their D is going to be bad again, right? Picking my Draft Kings survivor league team. As of now, I'm rolling with Brock as my QB.
