He was a first round pick. Missing on a first round pick is as bad as overpaying someone in a sport that has no salary cap.

I'll let him play more than 34 minutes of football before I declare him a bust.

Refs in pre season form here today. Thrown the flag on some ticky tac plays, completely miss on some obvious ones.

Good, Houston is firmly back in the lead. We can't let the Bears start 1-0 or the meatballs are gonna start up with "DAAAAH I TINK DA BEARS ARE GOIN TO DA DUPER BOWL" and that can't be allowed to happen.

No shit FF

he doesn't challenge that God awful spot that gave the Texans a fresh set of downs earlier, but he challenges this.

It's the same team as the last 10 years. Keeping it close until the half and then in the second the offense goes nowhere and the defense eventually erodes because they're out there forever.

The Bears spent a ton of money and picks on the front 7 and of course both units look like complete shit. OffensI've line can't protect or trap and the defensive line can't penetrate. Whole team is a joke, Kevin White looks horrible.

And I'm done watching Bears football for another season. What a bunch of garbage.

Another team that gets destroyed after the first half?

Glad I came down to watch "hot women watching polo at North Avenue Beach". Pretty spectacular.

To be fair to the Bears, Houston is going to be good this year.

He had a knee and an elbow down. We went over this in chat.

These 3 things I thought I seen:

on TD by Texans:Did not SEE THAT. Elbow hit out of bounds.

QB sneak failed for the Texans, but no challenge.

Bears don't kick FG and fail on QB sneak.

Defensive line: did not show up.

Impressed with:

Bears DB's seemed to be playing well.
LB's played well on the inside at least.

Easy to pile on the Bears after this loss, but they played way better than expected.

Cutler looked sharp, except the one interception where he practically threw it to the defender. Even if White didn't run his route right, you should eat the ball there or throw it away.

Ex-White, the receivers were on fire. Alshon making Calvin Johnson type grabs. Royal tearing it up, too, with the touchdown catch. White has to be better at football.

However, there wasn't much of a running game. The line struggled with that and protection in the 2nd half, though both should be fixable. The consolation is that no linemen were injured.

Coaching gets a C-, D and needs to be better. Fox not taking the easy three with a field goal early on in the game hurt. The play calling in the 2nd half was obviously suspect, with no production.

I complained about it in the chat, but my biggest frustration with the game was how often the Bears would call a shotgun pass on third and short situations. I realize Houston's front 7 are excellent, but often it was the running game that produced those third and shorts in the first place in. Also I think I can recall maybe one or two of third down passes actually working but it seemed like just as often Cutler would get sacked quickly anyway.
