Finally, a blockbuster for Paxson!

Rumor mill has Bulls sending Nocioni and Sefalosha to NJ for Bostjan Nachbar, Marcus Williams, Antoine Wright and Jamaal Maglorie

Interesting. At least Jamaal Magloire is a solid, honest-to-God, point guard. He'd replace the injured Duhon in the rotation.

Marcus Williams is yet another 6'3" combo-guard that Paxson seems to love. He's a decent enough passer who will probably play late in close games because he won't turn the ball over as much as Hinrich or Gordon. Hasn't proven he can score though.

Nachbar can provide some offense and would be a suitable replacement for a departing Nocioni, but in my opinion Nocioni is a better defender.

Antoine Wright is just a so-so player. He doesn't have an outside touch, he can't slash, and he can't post up. He probably won't get very many minutes.

Huh?

Anyway, it looks like the main purpose of the trade from the Bulls end would be monetary

I don't mean Magloire is a great player. He's not a liability though. He's like Chris Whitney.

My bad, for some reason I was thinking about Jamal Tinsley.

Brainfart. I'm having a long week...cut me some slack.

Jamaal Magloire...well, at least he's tall. That's about all I can say for him.

We'll still lose every game to the Nets. I would hate to play against Noc, I don't want to hate him. I don't know much of any of those guys on the Nets and no one has really broke it down that well. Sorry Kid.

I guess I don't understand why that trade would make sense.

Marcus Williams may have a future in this league as a PG, and I realize that Hinrich isn't a true point guard, but we still have a midget back court.

Magloire and Nachbar are spare parts, who cares.

Wright appears to be a swingman who plays good defense.....

I believe Wright is one of those guys that Paxson has always wanted. I remember seeing Paxson drooling courtside when Texas A and M beat De Paul in the NIT with Wright leading the way. It was Paxson, me and about 5 other people at the horizon that day.

Well if there is two going out and four coming in...who are the other two casualites? Kryapa( or however his name is spelled) has got to go and Adrian Griffin?

Well that explains all the playing time for Sefalosha. I don't know about this. I don't any gain out of this. Magloire is a walking stiff. Another PJ Brown. Nachbar is another stiff who just sits around the three point line which makes him a weaker Noccioni. Marcus Williams is the only potential, but that is what we do not need. Another potential player.
Wright will be our new 12 man.

I don't like it at all.

What doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me is Nocioni's contract comes off the books after this year, but so does 3 of the NJ players (only M. Williams is due a modest 1.2 mil next year)

I could see if they were trying to get rid of salary but it seems like a lateral move for the Bulls. I guess NJ still has aspirations of doing something in the playoffs with their core and Nocioni could certainly help them. I don't see how it helps the Bulls at all though

Yeah, I don't see how this trade improves the Bulls' position--that is, unless you believe Marcus Williams has star postential. Some people were saying that about him leading up to the '06 draft.

Didn't Noc just signed an inflated FA contract this offseason?
He's on the books for another 5 years if I remember correctly.

Anyway the ESPN trade machine says that the salaries wouldn't match - for whatever that's worth.

This only makes sense if step 2 in blowing up the team is to ship Wallace to the Lakers for Rodmanovich's bad contract & one year of the Kwame Brown experience.
That would give the Bulls some serious cap room for the offseason.

Is Kwame Brown still a "flaming burrito"?

I don't know.
I haven't seen hin in any of those Sonic drive through commercials

Yes, you are correct. I was wrong. I was looking at the hoopshype.com salaries list which is incorrect

So basically it would be a salary dump as 3 of the 4 NJ players (unless hoopshype is wrong about that too) have expiring deals.

But you're right, Noc is at ~5 mil and Sefalosha ~1.2 mil so the Bulls would have to add someone else to make the deal work

Plus Noc is a Base Year compensation case which muddles it up even more. Either way it sounds like a cap clearing move, unless Magloire regains his form from 2 seasons ago and turns into a 10pts/9boards center.

Uh, yeah, about that....

I know it's just a rumor but I don't get it. Of all the people on this team Noc is one person I'd actually want to keep. I guess at this point though with Gordon, Hinrich, et al you're going to be selling low.

That way Paxson can sign another top-quality free agent like Ben Wallace!

No he isn't.

According to ESPN he is. Pull up the Bulls on the trade machine

Agreed - this sounds like something a NJ writer came up with.

Nocioni just signed a 5 year deal so he's on the books for awhile, but he doesn't make a ridiculous salary, and has actually been one of the few productive Bulls.

I don't know if it would come back to haunt the Bulls, but I'd like to see Sefalosha stay at SG for the remainder of the season (of course, barring some blockbuster trade) and see if he can become a long-term player at that spot.

I thought he would be as well in the first year of his deal.

From Peter Vescey's column:

A Bulls official flippantly disclaims a report in The Record regarding Andres Nocioni joining the Nets for three expiring contracts, two turtle doves and a warm six-pack. Other than the minor detail that the Argentinean forward happens to be Chicago's third best player, his newly signed contract makes him virtually impossible to move.

If we did make a deal with NJ, I would like to get that Boone kid. Im sure they arent even considering dealing him, but he seems like a pretty solid big guy. The only knock I can think of on him is he makes Ben Wallace look like Reggie Miller from the charity stripe.
