Anyways, I would say a Rusty Nail would be an un-conventional COCKtail.

We had to explain a vodka gimlet to a few bartenders.

We were bar hopping at carols corner in east Dundee when my wife and her friend asked the bar tender for a girly suggestion. The owner responded we don't get many girls here.

Yeah, I think it's an acquired taste. A Scotch and soda is crisp and clean. I can drink Bourbon and water in a pinch, but I don't really care for the nutty flavor. I don't hate America either, but I like German cars, Italian suits, French wine, Scotch whisky, and Greek women.

Italian suits look good on about 1% of the population.

If you can't make an Old Fashioned in Wisconsin you will likely not be working long behind the bar. I don't think I have ever had one but I know they are
almost like the state drink.

Because I intend to squeeze you.
I don't like your kind of people.
I don't like to see you come out
to this clean country in oily hair,
dressed up in those silk suits
and try to pass yourselves off
as decent Americans.
I'll do business with you, but the fact is
that I despise your masquerade,
the dishonest way you pose yourself
and your whole fucking family.

I can do 1 scotch. Not bad.

But, it's too sweet. 1 is the limit.

None. I stick to IPAs. Though I used to get down at home on Gatorade and vodka.

Dad liked Manhattans, so when I first went out as a young adult, I figured to try them. Who would have ever thought mixing whiskey and wine in the same glass would be a bad idea?

Complete lack of self-control and serious boundary issues have ruined my chances to enjoy almost any spirits today, but I still give it my best shot.

I can highly recommend the trip to Staymakers' restaurant at the Journeyman Distillery over here in Three Oaks, MI. Skip the food and just drink. Make it a weekend with Greenbush Brewing in Sawyer. Pure Michigan. Then get out. Fuckers.

bartender chick doesn't know how to make it
guy acts incredulous and like a prick (of course)

now, i'm going to make a short list of what i'd consider "standard" cocktails- ones that if you couldn't make or screwed up, i'd understand the customer being pissed
martini, old fashioned, gin & tonic, screwdriver, margarita, cosmo, maybe tequila sunrise
i'm sure i'm missing a few

but other than those, do you guys actually ever order anything like a harvey wallbanger ? or a roy rogers ? or a singapore sling ?

just curious how often bartenders, in general, have to make these type of drinks

If I can get you to order a drink with a funny name, I gotcha for 22 extra minutes

That's my moms drink.

I drink Jack and Coke or Gin and tonic

In younger days, I'd order a Tom Collins

Too many operators don't understand that we're not in a business of producing cocktails. We're producing reactions. Cocktails are vehicles. Don't manage it from behind the bar. Manage it from the office. I manage business by the look on your face.
