Drake LaRoche to throw out first pitch before Dodgers-Nationals Game 2. Seriously.
Drake LaRoche will be throwing out the first pitch before Saturday’s Game 2 of the Dodgers-Nationals playoff series.

Yes, that Drake LaRoche.

A national audience will now be reminded of the embarrassing spring training episode in which struggling Sox designated hitter/first baseman Adam LaRoche left the team over a dispute about how much time his teenage son Drake could spend in the team clubhouse. Apparently the Nationals are honoring Drake’s dad — who spent four years in Washington back when he could still hit and before he signed a pricey two-year deal with the Sox — and the two LaRoches are, unsurprisingly, a package deal.

Surely Sox fans have not forgotten that young Drake was called a “leader” in the clubhouse by outfielder Adam Eaton as he lamented the loss of the lad’s presence. A leader!

And no Sox fan needs to be reminded that the incident also sparked a beef between Chris Sale and Kenny Williams that led Sale to call the team VP a “bold-faced liar.” A liar!

We’d bring up the scissors-and-throwback-jerseys thing, but that just feels like piling on.

I think everyone assumed there would be a 50/50 chance that Drake LaRoche would throw a pitch in the playoffs before the Sox would.

This is weird. Does the team have no history at all?

What is Frank Howard doing?

Yeah, different franchise but a Washington slugger from the old days.

They appear to ignore the fact that they existed in Montreal.

So, no, they have no history.

I'm sure they'll dust off Adam Dunn as well.

He would make a great squad leader for Joseph Kony. Maybe work his way to K-7

The Nationals claim to be established in 1905,

which makes no sense, because the original Washington Senators (now the Twins) started in 1901 like all original A.L. teams did, the Expos started in 1969, and the Nationals started in 2005 or, if you want to count the offseason, 2004. Where did they get 1905?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_o ... E2%80%9360)

Quote:
In 1905, the team changed its official name to the Washington Nationals.[1] The name "Nationals" appeared on the uniforms for only two seasons, and was then replaced with the "W" logo for the next 52 years. However, the names "Senators", "Nationals" and shorter "Nats" were used interchangeably by fans and media for the next sixty years;
