You just know Bochy will figure out a way to throw Bumgarner 3 times in the series if it goes 7
bumgarner isn't your problem with the giants. your REAL problem is that they can go cueto/SHARK/matt-mo, and i know that post-TJ matt-mo isn't consistent and all... but when he's on point he's capable of like 8IP 1ER 6K... samardzija was hanging around a ~3.25 ERA for most of the first half and then i think he got dinged upwards of 3.50-3.75 ERA early in the 2H (SHARK gonna SHARK) but then i think he was pretty solid down the stretch.... and matt mo'(ore) is a box of chocolates... he could get got but then again if he's locating his grade-A stuff then he's theoretically about as good of a #3 that you'll see in the playoffs (on this side of greg hendrux anyways)
of course i'm assuming that lester/hendrux/someone can match up with bumgarner/ace for those games and at least give you a chance to win the games. remember, even tho bumgarner got a ~C- mets offense tonight he wasn't dominant in the 2H. he took his ERA from like 2.24 to 2.74 over the last 2+ months of the season. unless he has a playoff gear and he goes down as one of the absolute legends of the game (via postseason heroics) you can beat him if your pitcher goes out and did what syndergaard did.
TLDR = this is the worst possible matchup for the cubs in a 5 game series. however, if the cubs are as #WeAreGood as they sure seemed to be this year (dont forget in the first half they were the "Cardiac Cubs" where just about any time you saw them down like 3-1 in the 6th or 7th you expected them to have the game tied/won by the 9th inning... AND THE ABSOLUTE MADMEN DID IT!) then the final seal of the apocalypse will be broken when they play #GoCubsGo at the white house and dumbass obummer goes out of his way to mention that he's a (fake as hell) sox fan and yadda yadda yadda. still, they're gonna need that joe crede "clutch gene" (- skip bayless) if they wanna survive this worst-case-scenario 5 gamer.
fortunately, if they can routinely handle (or even just survive) the giants' pitching in a 5 game series then they gotta be clear and prohibitive favorites to win the WS cuz i think that barring some sort of self-applied-pressure re: "Cubbie Occurrences" this is gonna be the hardest series for them; especially if they are pressing right away because there's going to be a shit ton of pressure on this team right away to prove that they're the same team in october that they were in april-may, let alone the whole regular season.
TLDR TLDR = disregard ^^^^THIS^^^^ i suck cocks
