Forgot how goddamn funny this was (mini-marathons on HBO). A lot of dead people. The Crying Game episode the other night had Gene Siskel, John Ritter and Warren Zevon as guests.

It's on HBO Go too. Love this show so much. Hank's tirade where he chipped his tooth on a bathroom urinal is possibly my favorite moment in television comedy.

Yeah, this was a game-changer show. And Larry had two of them which is pretty impressive.

"The Hankerciser" is one of my favorite episodes, where Francine is about to blow the whistle on Hank sticking his name on some shitty exercise equipment until he cries like a bitch. Two all-time great series moments in that one, Artie with "I SAID LET'S ALL GO HAVE SOME FUCKING CHEESE" and Hank running out the door going "shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit."

Hank Kingsley is one of the greatest television characters ever created.

No doubt about it. Hank is the King. The one where he fills in for Larry and actually does a pretty good job is one of my favorites.

And then he fails the very next day because that was all it took to go to his head.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aPqhFUvo8E

The face Artie makes when Hank calls Phil a "hopeless retard," then the face Hank makes when someone yells "YOU SUCK" and he has no idea what to do. Everything this show did was so good.

I held off clicking on this thread out of fear some idiot would say this show sucked. So glad that's not the case, at least until some wise ass says it after this post.

It's my favorite comedy of all time. Garry Shandling was a genius. Hank, as has been said, was one of TV's greatest characters. Artie was excellent as well, though I enjoyed all of the characters.

I have the entire series on DVD, but I'm happy it's on Xfinity's OnDemand as part of my HBO subscription. Easier to watch than popping in a DVD, though OnDemand doesn't have the extras. Oh well.

Just watched the first 3 episodes. Love the line when Larry and Artie meet with the network execs to talk about the live commercials, and someone says, "Hello, Larry" and Larry says something to the effect "Those are words a network exec should never say."

Everything about this show was perfect, including when to end it. Great stuff.

I've been really wanting to watch this show. I have to complete the current show I am watching before I can start this.

Didn't realize it was on HBO GO now. I have never seen an episode but I think I would like it. May have to dip into it this weekend.

There's a little early-installment weirdness in the first season (Larry is married to a boring woman with great jugs, balding Jeremy Piven plays the head writer), but by the second season they're off and running and don't look back. I specifically remember the episode about Larry bumping into a woman at the grocery store as one where the show hadn't fully found itself.

One thing I will say is that it looks its age. The videotape is cheap, the film is grainy, and trying to overscan it from 4:3 to fit your 16:9 screen is only gonna make it worse. Think of it as the Velvet Underground of heldheld-camera comedies. Also, not many people saw it, but everyone who did started their own handheld-camera comedy (The Office, Arrested Development, and 30 Rock, most obviously).

Often times as opposite in personality to how they actually were/are. The David Duchovny storyline later in the series is one of the funniest things in the history of TV. For those who haven't watched, he basically has a heterosexual crush on Larry. Shandling had a weekly basketball game at his house, and Duchovny was one of the regulars. The idea for the sexual tension between Larry and fictionalized Duchovny was hatched at one of those basketball games.

All of the following clips are a little over a minute and well worth your time.

About damn time! I used to watch this with my parents when it first aired. Artie is my favorite, followed by Hank. Favorite scene is when Hank asks Artie to heckle him. Yer nuthin but Larry Sanders' personal fuck bitch! Did this only happen because of Shandling's death? I knew he was beefing with HBO for years about the show rights.

I'd say Artie made the show but there's no wrong answer. Brilliantly funny all around

Gene Siskel explains The Crying Game to Hank.

Unfortunately, the real punchline of this gag is omitted, which is that Larry strolls by and jokes "you'll have to excuse Hank, he doesn't watch movies without 'Busty' in the title" without even having been privy to their hidden-penis conversation. He just knew without having to be there that Hank, given the opportunity to talk to Gene Siskel, was making a complete ass of himself.
