i know i've told this story before, but it's apropos here:

one day i was hanging out with some sign-toting homeless/broke vet on the median of sheridan/broadway or whatever right by the loyola red line station. as we're bullshitting about various ops in the 80s, this fully tinted / blacked out BMW pulls up to us and the window rolls down to see the silhouette of a white guy with a shaved head, who calmly slaps a $50 bill on the homeless vet. i started realizing what was happening, and as the light turned i yelled out "HEY YOU'RE TOM THAYER!!!!" and he peeled out and sped off with his fist in the air hanging out of the window. i caught the custom notre dame plates on the back of the car as he sped off.

he might be a meatball of sorts, but he's our meatball dammit! and i can report that he's a pretty cool dude out there in the field of excellence!

i just wanna add that technically my story works with what CH/GD is saying because he did peel out heading south on broadway from loyola, so hey you know how it is #WhenInRome and etc etc =D

i like thayer... he's basically chris rongey in that it takes him forever to really not say a whole lot... but it sounds good and he yells BALL!!!!! every fumble.... it could be worse
