Go Cubs Go!

That would explain a couple things.

jimmypasta noted about a year or so ago that MM was sounding a bit more off his game than usual.

so hey, did anyone ever put on their spiegel cap and make up some "alternate lyrics" for the mike murphy theme song over the years?

"HE'S NEVER BEEN ISSUED A PRESS PASS... CUZ YOU KNOW HE WANTS PLAYERS ALL UP IN HIS [duh duh duh - duh duh duh - DUHHHH] HEEEEEEEE'S MIKE MURPHY AND HE'S TALKIN TO FANS ON THE SCORE.... AND THAT'S MURPHY'S LAW! HE LIKES IT RAW! THAT'S MURPHY'S LAW!!!!"

(seriously i always was cool with murph cuz even tho his show was what it was, it was always a comfortable listen. plus if you ever called up and actually knew what you were talking about he'd "put you over" and talk you up and pretty genuinely seem to want you to call back again. but i still had to occasionally make fun of his theme song back in the day cuz i AM an asshole and all... >=)

I liked Murph's show, corny as it was. It did its job as a comfortable little midday show.

The Score lineup when I started listening ten years ago was North, Mully and Hanley, Murph, B&B, and Larry or Doug when there wasn't play-by-play. That was a good lineup, North notwithstanding, because it had something for everyone and wasn't just Dan Bernstein: The Station.

Yep. As much as I hate Murph and North, it was better than it is now.

I think I started a little before that. Murph and Fred were in the morning with The Wise Guys in the afternoon.

When Murph and Fred had the short early shift (2 hours iirc) they were a good listen. A full Murph shift became tedious though.

started listening to mike back on WLS fan talk. Heard many bad stories about him through the years. But still would love to hear him on the radio especially with the Cubs making the World Series. Glad he's recovered from his illness.

I have no listened in many moons. Maybe like a 2hr show 3 days a week, you could. As long as producer Cy is with him.

Not happening. Producer Cy hates him with the fire of a thousand suns.

First off, I just want to say I am estatic right now. I am so damn happy that Murph got his comeuppance. I feel so vindicated and I will explain that in a bit. For those of you that feel bad for him, I will not tell you how to feel but I will try to shed some light on some of the Murph that I got to know. I worked with him probably longer than any producer at the Score so I do know a thing or two most probably don't. If you still feel bad for him so be it and if you don't there will be no arguments from me. I also want to apologize in the beginning if this post gets long winded.

And it gets better from there.

All I remember was, Murph constantly calling him producer Cy. I wish he would of said, Yes Host Murph?

for the record, back in the early 90s, I had won a Browns Chicken and Pasta dinner from Murph's show. And it was DELICIOUS!

Never was a next level show but you knew what you were going to get when you put Heyyyy on the dial. I didn't actively dislike the show. It kept me amused me one summer when I had a long ass drive to an internship each day. The amusing angle to me is that Murph's Cubs-focused talk, which would get annoying, would be preferable to the Cub front office knob slobbering now going on every day at WSCR.

I wonder whether Terry and Murph buried the hatchet now that they're both recovering from throat cancer (probably).

I still have a Score t-shirt from Murph for a Limerick Lounge entry.
