Not that he really has a choice at this point, but at the beginning of the month Fox was reported as saying the following about the quarterback situation after Cutler was injured.

As reported by Chris Emma at the Score, he said on Oct 3. when talking about Hoyer, ""Anybody's that performing well, I don't think we're going to be likely to change."

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... rs-starter

But yesterday, the Trib ran an article with the following quotes:

"At the end of the day, obviously Jay's our starter," Fox asserted. "He was injured and not permitted to play medically. And now that he's healed, he's back to being our starter. That's really the facts and kind of what happened and where we're at now."

"Some things that I say go somewhere that I wasn't really intending," Fox said. "I don't know that there was a competition to speak of."

Just when you thought Fox had some backbone to him, he waffles and caves in, when fans would probably rather see Zach Miller at QB than another game with Jay Cutler.

Fox is afraid right now. His respect as a HC might get burned up with a 2-14 team.

Honestly, who gives a shit? I've already spent more time watching Cubs playoff baseball than I will watching the Bears all season. This team sucks and until ownership changes, nothing will with the Bears.

Maybe I'll be a Cardinals fan.

The Cardinals have had about the same quarter-century that the Bears have had -- a Super Bowl loss and a few playoff appearances amidst a bunch of 5-to-7-win seasons -- except the Cardinals realized they were a national joke and started moving control away from NFL failsons while the Bears continue to sniff their own farts.

Which is it?

I agree that the franchise is looking horrible right now.

But it matters, because since Cutler has been here, everyone had bowed down to him, except Fox when he signaled that he would keep someone other than Cutler as the starter. For as much as I don't like what has happened with the team, I respected Fox for standing up for principle that the best player should play, even if he's not your so-called franchise quarterback. This is the way it should be, and probably is with all the other positions. But because Jay Cutler is the million-dollar-man, he's always gotten special treatment and never had to face any competition, even from McCown who arguably outperformed Cutler in the Trestman system. For the first time, I believed and I think many others did as well that the Bears were moving on from Cutler, as they should have done a long time ago and not made a sacrifice of Lovie to keep Cutler.

Now, Fox and the Bears are backpedaling and regressing to the old mentality, just to save face, when there's none left to save other than by not playing Cutler. I hate to call Fox gutless, but if the shoe fits, . . .

I am not sure what anyone expected Fox to say. Should he have said we lost faith in Cutler fast and we are going with Barkley? Or make Barkley feel bad by saying no matter how much we lost faith in Cutler Barkley is a POS?

He could have just said we are playing Jay because Hoyer is hurt.

His original comment though was impossible to walk back in a postive manner once Hoyer got hurt.

How about saying something that makes us think you're in charge, Fox? Make us think that you know what you're doing.

The problem is that he doesn't know what he's doing. That's is obvious, because the Bears quarterback of the future isn't even on the roster yet. He and Pace ignored QB the position for two drafts, when the franchise was supposed to be heading in a new direction. Pace isn't the only one to blame for the drafting mess, it's Fox, too. Both were stuck on Jay. Both kow-towed to him, which was a colossal error after the previous Bears' regimes failed with him. Why would you go down that same road again and destroy any goodwill with Bears fans?

He doesn't care. He is collecting checks to prepare for retirement.

There was a shot of McCarthy and Fox yukking it up before Thursday's games and I like to think they were both laughing about how easily they've fleeced their respective franchises.

Fleeced? McCarthy has won more playoff games than the Bears have played in the last 20 years.
