Breadman kinda looked like he'd had a real rough night at the tavern after that whistle.

Stars don't seem to have much outside of Seguin/ Benn

Not tonight, they didn't: Sharp, Hemsky, Hudler, Eakin, and Spezza were all injured.

This was a give-no-fucks game for sure, so it was good to get the win. I would have preferred a four-point gap on Dallas, but three is good enough. Let's hope they make the least of this injury stretch and really get set back, them and Nashville both.

Anisimov is a star now.

I've been nailing MLB and NHL over the past two years.

I am starting to feel like I was wrong about Hossa. Maybe it was the extended seasons, and he has now had a break.

He was My Guy since he came over.

Wonder what Barry Rozner thinks about him these days.

Playing on a line with Panarin has made him feel young again, like when you read those glurgy stories about a 90-year-old widower befriending a five-year-old girl.

I really think he got a boost from the World Cup. Played the whole tournament on the top line for Team Euro, played great and was key to helping them make it to the finals. Along with the early playoff exit and a little extra rest.

Looks like Motte could be out for a while. Knee injury didn't look good.

That would suck, he's been getting better with each game it seems.

On that note, how bout all the amazing rookies on the Hawks? If I would've told you 5 months ago that this season not only would we have 5 rookies in the lineup, but every single one of them would be playing great I doubt too many would've believed me. Kempny and Forsling are a god send on D. Schmaltz, Hartman (is he technically a rookie?) and Motte have all been great and seem to get better every game.

Rasmussen has done a fine job filling a role.

Campbell has been alright, but he still suffers from the same flaw in his game that has always plagued him, he's just not a very smart hockey player. Gets by on his speed and skating, but he's still prone to bad turnovers and I think its only a matter of time before he hangs someone out to dry in an outlet pass leading to one of our stars getting lit up in the neutral zone, but overall he's played well for the most part.

Yes, the rookies have played well for the most part. Have been particularly impressed with Motte, Hartman and Kempny.

then you haven't seen enough of Forsling and Schmaltz cause they've been just as impressive.

A few bad turnovers and penalties here and there, but that's to be expected from young players.

Cubs baseball took precedence. I won't lie. I went to Opening Night, but missed watching several games thereafter. Two of the games I did catch a bit of were when Forsling was scratched.

makes sense. It seems like every game a different couple rooks step up and look great.

Don't want to get ahead of myself, but this could be one of the better Hawks teams we've seen of this era. Nice to have youth and speed doing well in the depth roles as opposed to the usual crappy re-treads we've used to fill out the bottom of the roster for the past 4-5 years.

If these guys stay on the come like they are I'd expect next year to be the year they compete for the Cup. So hard to expect them in the Finals with so many rookies come playoff time .

You would think so, but if there was ever a team where rookies would have the best shot at doing well in the playoffs it would be a team with the kind of locker room leadership and experience that the Hawks have. But, either way, the future looks a lot brighter than some people would've had you believe going into this season.

Kempny is a solid, legitimate NHL defenseman. That sounds like faint praise, but coming off last year when our blue line was a disaster, he's just what we needed. Campbell has been a huge help and looks almost as rejuvenated as Hossa, but I don't think Keith is an ideal partner for him. Forsling is going to be special and should be involved for years to come.

What could turn this team into a genuine contender is a winger who can consign Panik to the bottom six and garbageman duty on power plays and push Tootoo (and quite possibly Desjardins, too) out of the lineup.

in the 3rd Q put Schmaltz out there with Toews and Kane. He looked good, but the problem is that those two need a power forward more than they need another skill player. So Panik might be the guy.
