What does reaching out to black people mean? What do you want from or by the government as a collective group? Are citizens responsible or is it all on the gov? How do you feel the Democratic party does it or what do they do well? Do you think they also implement policies that hinder black people? Do you believe Republicans voters or elected officials wake up everyday and say how can I make black people miserable and how can I keep them down? I ask, because I honestly don't understand and I don't believe this is the case.

I think we need to decide what is/are the most valuable things or ideas to us and society and work on that. I have little reference and experience with this.

Let's be honest.

Until I see one actually acknowledge climate change, I won't.

So... you just kinda proved what I'm saying. I'm sure every republican does not feel that way, but you think they do.

In a nutshell act as though you want their vote. Actually campaign in black neighborhoods. Don't hold a rally on race and have the audience be 96% white. Don't denigrate blacks with demeaning phrases such "My African American". Actually campaign in black neighborhoods. Quit acting as though blacks are the only ones receiving govt assistance (of any sort). Quit rolling back programs designed to address the racial injustices that have afflicted blacks. Denounce and disown overtly racist individuals within the party.Stop with voter suppression activities designed to specifically disenfranchise blacks.

You're sure, huh? Such as?

Trump said it's a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese, so that disqualified him.
2012 Romney - pushed for more fossil fuels.
2008 McCain - Better than Bush's stance, but the choice of Palin disqualified him.
2000/2004 Bush - please

Try again.

I don't care whether or not you agree with me on this issue, but please don't misrepresent me.

These two line items do not equate to a failure to acknowledge climate change.

McCain, a Republican nominee for President, was a strong believer in climate change and co-sponsored a bill that attempted to reduce emissions. If anything can show that not all Republicans deny climate change, that should. But if you need more...

Romney actively pushed for more fossil fuels to decrease our dependence on foreign energy in order to strengthen our economy. It had nothing to do with climate change. He has an economic background; the economic impacts are more important to him than the environmental impacts. Not running on a policy of eliminated fossil fuels does not mean you deny climate change.

Trump denies it. Pence denies it. Chris Christie denies it. Marco Rubio denies it. Ted Cruz denies it. Rudy Giuliani's lawfirm is a big lobbyist for coal companies.

That idiot James Inhofe brought a snowball into the Senate in January to prove that climate change is a myth.

Rand Paul thought it was real, until he entered the clown car that was the Republican primaries, and he went full denier.

Republican politicians can't say that climate change is real, or the Koch brothers will back somebody to face them in a primary.

Yes, he did some good things. He led a delegation, along with Hillary, to study the effects of warming on the North Pole. He pressured the oil industry to find alternatives to fossil fuels. He criticized Bush's withdrawal from the Kyoto Treaty.

He has also voted to prevent the EPA from establishing new regulations, and has voted against new investments in renewable energy.

Like I said, his stance on climate change wasn't the game changer. The choice of Palin sealed the deal for me.

Mitt Romney flip-flopped so many times on this. "It's real." "It's sort of real". "I'm not a scientist." "We don't know why we are getting warmer." It was only recently that he has said that he believes it is real, and man made.

I don't believe that a Romney administration would have seen the growth in solar and wind, like we have with Barry.

There is a difference between denying climate change and being against "cap and trade".

Apparently voting for one particular candidate earns you a derogatory name and the implication that your vote cast is shameful and something you will not admit to, as if it were a dirty crime to not vote for their preferred candidate. The other implication is that you are uneducated or ignorant for voting for this candidate.
This is still (sort of) a democracy where you are allowed to vote for a candidate of your choice of your own free will for your own reasons and you owe no explanations to anyone nor do are you obligated to reveal your motivations. The fact that you're painted as a cracker or dumbass or racist for the simple act of voting is a bad trend that has sadly taken root at this board.

Did you think it was necessarily shameful when people bashed me non stop for supporting Hillary Clinton? It has only gone on for about what, a year now?

I didn't see you get bashed for being a Hillary supporter.
If you were called names or if it were implied you're stupid or racist for your vote then yes it's inappropriate.
Serious question Darkside - Did you support Trump because you believe he was a good candidate or because he wasn't HRC? If it's the former please elaborate on his policies or attributes that drew you to him. Thanks in advance.

I think we picked easily two of the most detestable people we could have to run for president.
In my opinion, Hillary was way too loose with national security as secstate and that cannot be allowed.
This whole damn country needs an enema. And I'm willing to back a boorish buffoon who isn't a career politician. Hillary can be bought. I don't think Trump can.

The idea that he can't be bought is a bit sophomoric but backing a guy because he isn't a career politician when he's running for President of the United States of America is simply bad reasoning (that's the best I could do without being insulting).

I laid out why I don't think he can be bought in another thread... cliffs note version is ego. I may be wrong. He might become a sellout. He might take foreign money for his campaign. Who knows?
But after 40 years of poor leadership from career politicians I'm willing to give a shot to someone who isn't a career politician. He didn't spend his whole life polishing his image (obviously) and with him what you see is what you get on an unprecedented level. Maybe I just love chaos but I'm down for that.

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but President of the U.S. is the ultimate political position. Why would we "hire" a guy with no experience in that realm and just "hope" he does well?

Well were just gonna go round and round so I'll say dude I largely agree with you but again there's a lot of people including myself that's quite sick of the establishment as it is and I'm willing to give an outsider a shot. We'll know a lot more as he builds his cabinet.

Fair enough. If he picks a bunch of insiders like Gingrich, Giuliani, etc are you still on board?

There's plenty of politics involved in the military. Nobody makes General without playing the game.

Fair enough. If he picks a bunch of insiders like Gingrich, Giuliani, etc are you still on board?

I'll put it this way... he will need some seasoned political types to navigate Washington and the ins and outs of how things are going to work. Similar to Joe Biden roll I guess.
Giuliani is just as obnoxious and disingenuous as Hillary is. Guy lives to scream NINE ELEVEN any chance he gets.
Yeah depending on the sleeze factor of the people he chooses I'd say yes it changes things.
Dude I'm not a blind idiot. If he fucks up and does stupid shit of course I'm not on board with this.
This country and how it was built was a wonderful experiment. We've still not perfected anything. We can still experiment.

Are you a carpenter? If not I want you to work on my house.

Like Eisenhower? He seemed to do OK.

There's plenty of politics involved in the military. Nobody makes General without playing the game.

He sure outplayed several career politicians already.

I'm going to call an accountant the next time I need a plumber.

MANY people have a hard time getting jobs when they have experience and they're qualified. We decided to give the most powerful job in the world to a person who is clueless and doesn't have any experience.
