It took a couple years, but Chris Conte has his response to all the haters among the Bears fanbase:

"F--k you, Chicago."

That was Conte's message to Chicago Tribune reporter Rich Campbell after the embattled safety intercepted Jay Cutler in the first quarter and raced for a touchdown, the first score of his career and the opening score of a game the Bears wound up losing 36-10.

"I hate to make it personal, but for me, it is personal," Conte said. "It feels great. I don't want to say, 'F--k you, Chicago.' But I want to say, 'F--k you, Chicago.'"

Conte came under a lot of fire during his time in Chicago, drawing an obscene amount of backlash from Bears fans.


Over his four years with the Bears, Conte had nine interceptions and 21 passes defended in 57 games (52 starts).

The former third-round pick (92nd overall in 2011) stepped in front of Bears tight end Logan Paulsen toward the end of the first quarter Sunday afternoon in Tampa Bay, hauling in Cutler's pass and streaking 20 yards toward the endzone with his arms outstretched in triumph.

"That was a gift," Conte said after the game. "I don't think he really saw me. He had pressure in his face."

Eh, he isn't wrong. Bears fans targeted him when the entire defense was pretty bad. Not that he was an exceptional player.

The Bears haven't had a good safety since Mike Brown.

He was a terrible player, and one of the biggest reasons the Bears secondary was as bad as it was. He deserved to get crapped on.
