Too many guys just like him. I couldn't really say he was better than Harold Baines or Rusty Staub or a bunch of other guys. Andre Dawson is in the same category and he doesn't really belong in there.

Harold Baines and Rusty Staub? Nice players. Baines was a great hitter. Staub played for 936 years and played well for most of them.

Parker was an NL MVP, 2x batting champion, 3x Gold Glover, All Star MVP, RBI leader one year, 7x All-star.

2x World Champ.

Parker should be in the HoF.

Here's another one -

Baines never finished higher than 9th in MVP voting ever.

Parker was top 5 - 5 times.

Staub was 5th one time and never higher than 16th the other 935 years.

Baines has more hits, HR, and RBI. Same BA, slugged more and had higher OBP.

He also played a few more years than Parker

He also had a 1,000 more PA.

But, I put more emphasis on peak performance. Parker's highs were much higher than Baines. Also Parker was a superlative defensive player.

Baines only played 1/2 the game.

Parker could do everything - run, hit, field, throw, power - and for the better part of a decade he was as good as anybody in the game.

I like Baines. He could hit. But he's not Parker.

Baines was a tremendous right fielder and had a cannon for an arm. He got hurt and couldn't play the field. That doesn't make him less of a player.

No one is dissing Baines. He was a very good player. He just was not as good as Parker.

But all his numbers are better including averages over long careers.

And some of those numbers are skewed because of a longer career.

Doc has given a pretty solid argument here.

You're completely discounting how great Parker was defensively.

Plus Parker's highs were much higher than Baines' ever.

Baines was a very good player for a very long time.

Parker was a great player for about 11 years.

If you are a top 10 player for a decade, you're a HoFer in my world...and Terry Boers' world if I may speak for him.

Baines most comperable player is Tony Perez

Parkers most comparable player is Luis Gonzalez (in more ways than one)

Baines has 4 hall of famers in his top 10

Parker has 3 hall of famers in his top 10

You're discounting how great Baines was for a long long time.

You're not remembering that Baines was also an elite corner outfielder early in his career. Yeah, Parker had a better peak, but Baines is just better in every category, counting stats and averages for their careers. I don't think corner defense swings things that much. Neither belongs in the Hall. They're similar and just a little short.

The point is that "better peak" lasted 11 years.

That's significant.

Let's argue about politics where people are more likely to change their minds than the Hall of Fame.

Perhaps a podcast of Doc and JORR discussing baseball and the HOF

Dr. Ken: Hello, I'm Dr. Ken and I'm here with JORR. We're talking Hall of Fame.

JORR: Nobody gets in.

Dr. Ken: Alright, join us next week when we talk about Heaven.
