I wonder what Jason is gonna ask for. I don't think he has an agent. Brothers don't get agents. But neither did Boers for all these years and he was making the most at the SCORE. I wouldn't have one either if I'm just a radio host. Bernstein has one.

I'm sure Jason is gonna want more security than a 2 year deal with a SCORE option. He'll want at least 4 years. Try to get 200k Goff!!!! But if they say no, don't play hard ball. Just take what they offer.

Abattacola is not good enough at radio to have a regular hosting gig. he provides no interesting content and simply would be unable to provide consistent show content if given a regular gig.

Mac and Bernstein would be amazing for the 2 weeks that show would last...

Yeah. Drinky is just too much of a simpleton. I mean he's the type of guy that Bernstein hates. Which has always been the irony of him being Bernstein's producer.

Mac would choke out Bernstein in the first week.

I would be very concerned with this turn of events if I were drinky if he does not get either the spot or a promotion. He loses the one guy who would stand up for him to management in keeping his high paid producer job. Dan won't go to bat for him. Tannehill has displayed far better production talent. Management will be reevaluating things about the show now and his salary has to stick out as a spot for adjustment.

I don't know about the salary part. Is 50-60K a year for an executive producer going to look that bad when Terry's 300K+ comes off the books in January?

But you are correct: If Matt doesn't get the opportunity to be an on-air talent like he's always wanted, his hopes of ever being an on-air regular are assuredly dead.

What if they did the show on a mattress from the Mattress Firm? The endorsement dollars would probably cover all of Drink's salary.

Drinky is screwed now that sports radio is as old-media as newspapers were when sports radio started: there's no room to be Just A Fan anymore (and to tell you the truth, there's not even much room left for that in blogging). I always thought that would handicap Jason's full-time chances in a landscape of former sportswriters, but Jason is engaging and relatable while also being a giant sports nerd (plus let's not beat around the bush, he's a black guy on a station that had been allowed to become almost exclusively white and upper-middle-class while broadcasting to a market as heterogeneous as Chicago). But Matt has no interesting thoughts, no convictions, nothing. At this point he's so irony-poisoned that all he can do is say "ahhhhh, Dan, Dan, Dan, ahhhhh, I think what a stupid caller thinks, Dan, ahhhh." He doesn't bring anything the other producers don't bring to their Radio Siberia shifts. You gotta think it's up or out by now.

I'd be fine with Larry getting put next to Dan, and Mitch using the intermittent 6-10 spot for curating new talent, whether that be producers looking to make host, or finding "new media" guys (Barstool, etc.) like some other stations are.

perhaps this is why he's so damn SPIRITED when he does his reads. what was the big XXXXL one he had during today's show? the one where he was pitching xfinity/comcast to us because you're never more than 2 seconds away from TV at all times with XFINITY(TM)!!!!! this whole year has been a nightmare for all these XXXL reads with matt or matt and dan/etc for mattress firm, xfinity, or whatever. his whole inherent "lack of an everyman quality" shines through when he's pleading with me to get off of my ass and give comcast control of all the I/O coming out of my house!

also, as the presumed-progenitor of the term "radio siberia" i wanna point out that the phrase came from those times i'd be going to brunch circa 11am-1pm on post-NFL/pre-baseball sundays and i'd hear ben finfer hopelessly astray on a safari through an eclectic combinations of morning-hangovers and "early starts." that shift right there is the essence of "Radio Siberia" as it's what actually compelled me to create the term (as far as i know =)

The conversations between drinky and Bernstein are embarrasing for drinky. He doesn't know it though. That's the beauty of being an idiot.

They're about the same age. Christ, drinky was even married and a father before Bernstein. Drinky has had 2 kids since the first one with the 2nd wife. Yet he behaves and acts like a punk high school kid in conversations with Bernstein. At some point that has to stop.

When we were first introduced to drinky, he was gonna be the party boy on the radio. You know, the one that talked about boozing it up and objectified women. Maybe the occasional racist joke to which you say, "just kidding" at the end. That's what it was. With Goff, too.

But now that sort of thing isn't allowed on the SCORE anymore. Bernstein ruined that fun. Even if it was allowed, drinky can't be that guy anymore with a wife and kids.

I know drinky doesn't want to hear it. But he's more like Mike North than he is Dan Bernstein.

And if Bernstein never came along, North would still be at the station. Or even if North still would have been fired, the culture that North set up for the SCORE would still be in place had there been no Bernstein. Mac and Boers were a part of setting up that culture too. They had sexist comments. They weren't as racist as North but they'd still throw out a stereotypical joke every now and then. And Boers loved the gay jokes. But Bernstein killed that culture.

Now these uneducated producers have to pretend to be something they're not. Cuz Bernstein set that standard/culture. That's the only way you can make it there now. Do it like Bernstein. But they're all dumb asses and can't fake it well enough to fool the listeners. So they all fail. Drinky is the poster boy for that.

clearly we attended different types of "parties" growing up. worst i got in terms of "party boy" was that one douchebag who had to run out to his car and bring in an acoustic guitar so he could start asking chicks what their requests were for him to play on the guee-tar.
