As I say I've never been big on the whole "minutes" thing and I never really held Thibs liable for the injuries thing but this one thing hasn't ever been discussed with regards to it. I think it helps explain somewhat his gaudy regular season record. The fact that he typically plays his starters longer means that his starters are usually playing against 2nd stringers once the other team goes to the bench you saw it play out tonight and helps explain how that big 2nd quarter lead was erased. Look at the minutes played by the Starters for each team

I'm not really talking about it in the usual gets guys hurt thing. If you look at tonight's game the run was made against 2nd stringers during the 2nd quarter. He played his starters. No way of knowing but I bet he won a number of games while coaching the Bulls doing exactly the same thing. Problem with that is during the playoffs everyone plays their starters big minutes. Now it is more of an even fight and you have to actually coach and scheme a little more.

No he usually played 1 guy a shit load of mins. It was Deng and then Butler. The Bulls won a lot back then because their bench was so much better than everyone else. In the playoffs teams didn't go to their bench as much.

Everyone shortens their bench in the playoffs. The Bulls during Thins first 2 years were remarkably healthy. That helped alot. 8 guys 80 plus during that first year. If I were to look at the minutes thing strongly I'm sure it's more than Deng and Butler. He does the the same thing with Minn. In one of their rare blowouts he kept the starters in til the 3 min mark. They were up 30.

In his first year he played Rose and Deng over 36 mins a game. The following 2 years Deng was the only player that played a shit load of mins. The Final 2 years it as Butler.
