There are some great looking safeties this year especially if Hooker enters the draft. I think that has to be the way they go. They could even afford a small trade down to get one

I seem to recall Bears fans not liking using such a high pick (11 I think?, maybe 7?) on a safety. Mark Carrier turned out fine but the thinking back then was no safeties that high.

It's a different league. Passing and running games have switched as priorities for offenses. MLB used to be a premium position and now you rarely see one drafted in the first round.

I'm in full apathy mode now. Wake me up in a few years when this team is relevant. I sat through the Cub rebuild and I started to get impatient. That was with competent people in charge. I'm not watching Sweaty Teddy try it now.

If Hooker is Ed Reed, and he sure looks the part, he's absolutely worth the 3rd overall pick in the draft.

I wouldn't mind if Bears dropped down to 10-14 and picked OJ Howard and got a late round pick also. I really like his look. I know he's one of the top blocking Tight Ends also. Very underutilized by Saban too.

Wouldn't mind grabbing Peppers @ 3 or 4 and trading up to the 25th-26th pick in the first round to grab Howard.

I would love that. But I'm not sure Howard would be available that late.

IIRC, a big reason the Bears took Carrier is that he sort of "pre-signed" or agreed to money terms with the Bears before the draft.

That was way before the current slotting system when dudes would hold out all the time for more dough.

Not surprised that the Bears would take the cheap and convenient route, although Carrier put in a bunch of really good years for the Bears.

I'm seeing Howard on some mock drafts going late or second round. So, how about #3 pick and one of the Bears 4th round picks to New England for the 31st pick and Jimmy Garoppolo?! BOOM!

No. It would be far better and cheaper to take another QB. You trade with NE you get him for one year and have to pay him rather than three.

The word on him is that he is a quarterback, and since the Bears need a quarterback they must draft him.

I'm hardly an expert on Wyoming football but from what I've read he can make all the throws and has that prototypical size and athleticism for the position. It seems like Matt Miller really brought his name out into the open and now everyone else will catch up, I doubt he stays in school if he's going #3 overall in mock drafts.

Accuracy is a major problem for Allen. He completed 56% of his throws which far too low, especially considering the competition. I thought he was in school for another year. I'm pretty sure he is only a redshirt sophomore. There would be no way I'd take him in the first round. His performance feels like a third rounder to me. Gives me a Christian hackenburg vibe

As a comparison, kizer gets ragged on for 58%. (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and Watson are in the high 60s. Mayfield is in the 70s

Matt Miller is remarkably unintelligent. I wouldn't rely on his analysis matching that of nfl scouts

I guess, but isn't that what is written about every QB who eventually makes an appearance in the top 10 of someone's draft? It's the same shit, different player. Someone "saying" something doesn't make it true though. It's just a way to shoehorn a guy into being a pick for that team. The awful thing is that not only do draft experts do it, but GM's do it.

My point is that I doubt if the Falcons are sitting there at 25 and this QB drops to him they say "Hey, this Matt Ryan guy is our man, but what a great value taking this shitbag from Wyoming, he's like a top 5 QB with the ability to make all the throws and the prototypical size and athleticism for the position, let's take him and then we can trade him for a top 5 pick next year."

The Bears just won 3 games, they have a crap ton of needs all over the roster.

Just watched a cut-down version of Allen's game against New Mexico. A few thoughts:

-Dude is athletic as hell with a cannon for an arm. Escapes pressure well and can keep his eyes downfield looking for a play like Aaron Rodgers

-He has a tendency to miss his receivers high when he can't set his feet and changes his arm angle to more of a 3/4 "sling" motion. Doesn't drop down side-arm like Stafford, but it does appear to change.

-Has spent time under center and has run play-action turning his back to the defense.

-Doesn't appear to lose a lot of arm strength when he's not able to set his feet properly or when on the run.

-Does NOT like to slide as often as he should.

-Play-action needs work, nobody in the NFL is biting on what he does.

See for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIhTrxCrvUk (the video angle is pretty high, so getting a sense of what his true arm action is was tough for me)

Allen looked better in the youtube clip against Boise St. I do like that he keeps active in the pocket and is ready to scramble if need be.

You can tell he has an NFL arm. Accuracy is definitely an issue. Some of those balls really sailed over the WRs heads.

Do you believe that Garoppolo is good?

In the little I saw of him, it looked like he was making plays based on athleticism rather than an understanding of his position. I'm not sure he can read defenses that well, and he definitely holds on to the ball too long--which is part of the reason he got injured.

It is supposed to be a great draft for TE so I would not move up to grab one.

Did you happen to see Troy Fumigalli in Wisconsin's game against WMU?

I'll tell you that my guy right now is Malik Hooker, S, OSU. The guy said he was "100% coming back" as late as November 28, so I think he has been under the draft radar. He wasn't under the radar, mind you, just not on boards, because he was adamant that he was returning.

6-2, 205

7 INTs, 3 returned for TDs in 2016

One year starter, which is just a bit troubling (but only a small bit).

I would want to see his combine stats, of course, but I just don't see how this is not going to be MY GUY. Game changing talent.

This fills so many Bear needs. He creates turnovers, at which the Bears have been woeful. He is a coverage safety, which they do not have. He is also a willing tackler with 74 on the year. I think you can team him up with Amos or Jones-Quartey and have a good tandem back there.

His presence immediately makes the entire Bear D much better. You saw that when the pressured the QB their DB looked good. Imagine what it will look like if a DB actually IS good.

He's pretty good GD, but at #3 idk. I'd def snatch him up in the 2nd round.

Josh Allen is fucking horrendous. I think Hellen Keller might have better accuracy with the ball.

Malik Hooker is a beast. I would take him 3rd overall in a heartbeat.

who wouldn't take a top of the draft talent in the second round

Two and possibly three safeties will go in the top 10. Three definitely in the top half.

Jamal Adams has consistently been projected top 6-8. Hooker is a better prospect.

Wilson has been up there too.

Allen kind of reminds me of that huge armed, mobile and big QB from South Alabama from a couple of years ago that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. He just so looked the part that you (by you I mean Dr. Ken and I) wished you could will him to be good.
