Well Mike and Fred, why don't you call Jerry and ask him why we don't have a dome.

Remember how Mike Mccaskey could not get anything done for a new stadium, but then Sweatty Teddy jumped in and in record time had Mayor Daley on Board, The Governor and the state legislstors as needed?

Almost as if Teddy talked to someone who was connected enough to get the votes needed for State funding? Who could that be? Maybe the same guy who pulled a cool $38 million for his team (Exact $$ could be wrong) in the passage of that same legislature for the Soldier Field renovation.

Then one must ask what could the chairman have recieved in exchange for a little help?

How about "NO DOME"?

If they had a dome at Soldier Field guess where all the Hannah Montana shows are? The NCAA Games? The Big ten tourney? The Stones? Tom Petty? Rush? and on and on and Oh, A SUPER BOWL!

This is what the Illinois Stadium Authority should have been doing. Yeah, you know doing something for the people of Illinois.

You think the State could have used some money from Hannah? How about a final four? a SUPER BOWL!

Instead we got the worst New/Renovated stadium in America and maybe the World.

So you're saying that if Soldier Field, the football stadium had a dome that they'd host college basketball games there instead of the United Center? Yeah I'm not buying it.

We don't have a dome because we don't want a dome and we don't need a dome.

Yeah, it's called the final four, you may have heard of it.

Maybe not the three illinois games they have each year, but thats not why you have a dome.

Maybe 1 super bowl would have prevented the City Council from approving the $10.40 per $1000 city transfer tax on real estate, up over 40%, because the city needs more money.

This staidum situation in Chicago is one of the worst in America. We built a Stadium for a billiionaire, which we don't use for anything that makes money except his team. Remember when it was built? There was going to be concerts? I must have missed those.

Then we spend $500 million on the worst renovation of a structure since I did my first rehab without plans (and permits) at the age of 22!

Now this corrupt organization is going to buy Wrigley?

I hate watching indoor football, and if the Bears were to play indoors, I would just become a Raiders fan.

Natural grass. None of that turf shit for the Bears. Remember that, BF? If you wanted a domed deal, it could've attached to McCormick, meaning it could've been used for trade shows, etc.

Listen: we (as a populace) wanted grass, and we wanted the columnades preserved. Which is why what we got looks alternatively like a spaceship and a toilet bowl.

And man, that natural grass the park district puts in there really holds up well, too.

Has anyone noticed they build retractable domes now? I'm with BF on this. Chicago is F'd up when it comes to professional sports & its stadiums. Too many "dirty politics" and back room deals. Thank god for Michael Jordan. I liked the old Chicago Stadium too & they possibly could have left it up for the circus & other BS...but the UC is a great building...MJ's building.

Soldier Field is nice...but is way too small and IMO will be an albatross for the Bears in the not so distant future.

screw Bear weather...they lose playoff games in Bear weather...and the natural grass is crap. The new field turf plays safer than grass & holds up better. Bear weather. ha-ha

I don't care if the organization is corrupt or not. Hell, I wouldn't care if zombie Hitler crawled out of the ground and bought Wrigley. As long as the Cubs stay in the city, I'm happy.

I cannot believe what they are doing with the Chicago municipal transfer tax.

The mandatory/useless $50 water certificates for condos are crooked, too.

Don't forget the $ 125 fee for the zoning certicate to prove your home is a SINGLE FAMILY residence or extra $ 20 charge for a water Full Payment Certificate

The grass thing always amuses me. Weren't the holy '85 Bears playing on turf at home, but the meatheads longed for a return to REAL football, as God intended, on grass and in the 'elements', right?

I hated that place back in the days of the green wooden benches and "open" north end, I'm still amused by the reverence for the 'symbolism & honor' that armpit (now monstrosity) of a building was/is supposed to convey, and as walkrman said, it's currently little more than an albatross.

Torch you realize it might be the worst stadium built/renovated in the last 10 years. It is terrible! (or at least since Comiskular)

The attempt to use minimal materials and make it look modern! How about just summing it up as cheap!

The majority of the seats are the cheapest on the market and I am not even talking about the design of an Old football field giving birth to a Spaceship!

And in Arizona they have a retractable roof and a tray field of REAL GRASS that they pull out to get sun, or when they have another event in the dome.

Go to a few new places and then go to Soldier Field. It is a design disaster.

And now someone in City Hall just thought that they should have some concerts there in the summer to make money! BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone remember the urine infused narrow concourses of the old Soldier Field? Getting crushed by drunk, fat, and loud men in those narrow hallways after the game is not one of my favorite memories of the old place.
