Not as pathetic as the amount of time they spent talking shit about him during a retrospective of a 25 year career. Kind of gives you the feeling it wasn't all murph

Who was the producer here that didn't like him? Cy?

Yes it was Cy and countless others. I m pretty sure these guys are not lying. I heard bad things about Murph thru the years and also had my own run in like 25 years ago or so i've posted numerous times on the old forums.

But so what. Keep it in house. No reason to bring it up on somebody's retirement party. Why would someone want to bring that up unless you are just a bitter angry person. It was such a lowball move.

When you say "they" are you referring to the multiple guests who brought up Murph and took shots at him? No, you're right...I'm sure he was not the jerk he's been made out to be. At some point I'm sure we'll hear from somebody that worked with him that liked him...(crickets)

my primary point was that it was guests bringing up Murph. Not sure why that means it "wasn't all Murph". And as others have noted, there were many others who hated Murph. LH was another btw. I've never heard North defend Murph and I'd bet Fred would tell some stories as well if he were off the record but he's smarter than that.

If it wasn't for Murph North would have never got his gig on the score. North owes Murph for his life.

I got to the part with George Offman shitting on Murph. Show's who's really got the grudge.

I think Murph was really insecure about his abilities and had to work really hard just to put on a decent show. B&B could roll in and ad-lib a great show. (If it's any consolation to Murph, they haven't in years.) He probably demanded a lot from producers because he took his job seriously but also knew he had to do it a certain way to do it well, or at least adequately. I'm not surprised he'd be a pain in the ass to work for if you were the typical Score producer who has to be told not to get Cheeto dust in the console.

good point. Murph was more of a traditionalist professional. While the other guys it was a big frat party. The other guys would come in hung over or half drunk and so would their producers. Murph never would do that or allow it.

The listeners appreciated murph's professionalism giving him the best rating for YEARS. YEARS!

Right. I've often said that. Guys like Mac and Murph actually ask their producers to do shit. Drinky and Goff come from B&B where nothing is asked of them. And they think that's the way things should be. They think it's offensive that producers are asked to do things by their hosts.

The irony in all this is that Murph consistently performed the most formulaic shows in the history of the station, so he shouldn't really have needed to prepare for them. Everything revolved around the same few bits, hackneyed recollections, and stagnant perspective.

Murph first put North on the air when he was working at WLS or WCFL, I can't remember which.

This was a terry love fest today but you heard enough stories of people who might hold a grudge against terry to fill that room. I like and appreciate terry but if I wanted to make a case against him using only those words said today I could paint him as a bad neighbor, a drunk, an absent father etc. I don't think he is any of those but you see what can happen when you hear one side of the story

We do know that this horrible guy murph never spends his time airing dirty laundry

Murph got North the gig on the score. Pre Score Murph was WLS and North was on some low frequency radio station on the right side of the dial (can't remember the call letters) doing a 1 hour gambling show on the weekends. Murph referred North to the score which got Mike the gig.

and btw - Bully Boers and Bully McNeil - EVERYBODY wore a full leather outfit back in the 90s!

The story North told involved management from WXRT and WSBC (and subsequently The Score) patronizing his hot dog stand. He also bought time on WSBC. If Murph referred North to The Score then he screwed himself considering the time slot he ended up with.

The patronizing was AFTER Murph recommended him. Trust me, I was there.

I don't think it was a coincidence that Dan Lee et al ended up at North's hot dog stand. Murph and North had some kind of connection prior to the Score. I think North called in to Murph's old show pretty regularly and Murph encouraged him to pursue a radio career.

Not sure why I didnt see this earlier but you feel the same way I do about Murph. Back when Murph was on WLS and the early score years, lot of parents of mentally challanged kids would have their kids call up Murph's show. They did this because Murph was extremely kind to those kids and talked to them on the air in a very kind and accepting way. You wouldn't believe how many happy and thankful letters we use to get from those parents about how their kid talking to Murph on the air made their kids day/year/life.

Not sure why Murph got bitter afterwards but hey shit happens in life. We're not the same person we were 10 years ago right. But I always remember that about Murph. His kindness to those special needs kids that made them feel like 100 feet tall.

Murph, IIRC, was the first Score host to be #1 in the target demo in AM drive.

hahaha no. where you get that. I'm just speaking from experience over 2 decades ago.

What sucks is Murph and Fred are on like 2 hours a week. They should be on regularly, especially Murph.

If I recall, they actually had a running bit where Boers would say something a bit risqué and then say under his breath, "I hope Murph's not listening" and Murph would frequently do the same ("I hope Boers isn't listening.") That seemed to pre-date the feud but maybe it was the early stages.

The thing about the invitation from Drinky (assuming he actually sent one) is that I'm sure Murph would have feared being set up for humiliation, as Drinky and others probably would have childishly thought they were doing Terry a solid by ambushing him.

North had "jagbag," but my favorite insult term was coined by Mac: "jackload". Not sure if that would pass FCC muster these days.
