Dude, the guy should at least get a raise or working the graveyard shift. Does anyone happen to know how much he makes? Is it at least 50k a year?

He should be happy he's managed to collect a steady paycheck all these years.

Self shitting....
Lol.

Wasn't it Les who struggled for about 60 seconds to explain what a 3 technique was and then ended up making up some bullshit and ultimately getting it all wrong?

he was trying to read the Wikipedia page. had no clue about the context of the 3 technique.

He knows more about the three technique than you'll ever know!

Makes around that when you add up his Score show, stringing, and eBay auctions.

The Milton Waddams character from the movie Office Space when I think about how Les is treated at The Score.

I find it comforting to know that, should I need him, Les is there patrolling the nights.

I'm surprised he doesn't even get a mention when the Big Voice Guy does the show lineup:

Mully and Hanley, 5-9!
Spiegel and Parkins, 9-1!
Bernstein and Goff, 1-6!
Lawrence Holmes, evenings!

Would it kill them to say Overnights with Les Grobstein?

I never noticed that before. That is a slap in the face to Grobstein.

honestly i don't think there is a "promotion" for Les because i think he's exactly where he wants to be in doing the overnight shift. if you know Les you know that he's the one host @ the station who actually loves making use of his press-pass; i will always remember les in/famously working a ~10pm-5am shift the night-before/morning-of a ~1pm brewers vs dodgers game that he personally drove his happy ass up to milwaukee to cover because SOMEBODY had to go get some audio from manny ramirez addressing the rumors of him being traded from LAD to the White Sox. If you figure that a ~1pm first pitch means that he's gotta be in the dodgers' lockerrom by like 10-11am to have access to manny, man, i just couldn't help but wonder aloud WHEN DOES THIS GUY SLEEP!?!?!

so if sleep is evidently something that he's able to push off for a day or two when "necessary" then you figure Les has his ideal gig working overnights because this will allow him to go to just about any chicago/ish sports game he wants to go to (tho he probably can't stick around too long after night games, especially if he's starting earlier than midnight) and essentially "do his thing" -- which, again, i think is pretty much what he always wanted to do with his life.

i'm pretty sure that les is living his dream.... as relatively-lame or as laughably-free-buffet as that might be. and i'm also pretty sure he isn't a miserable piece of shit either, but hey from my experiences here i know that you guys are experts on determining what constitutes "a miserable piece of shit" and les DOES love him some free food and resellable swag, so maybe i'm just blinded to the truth by virtue of the fact that, evidently, us C/S/FMB punching bags sub/consciously stick together, eh?

Fuck, I think Stocks and Jocks used to even get mentioned during the rundown of the shows when that was a thing.

Les was pretty annoyed at that the other night. Didn't say so but he said "that last promo" was bothering him.

I don't listen to Les often, but I was listening one night when David Schuster had finished covering a Bulls game in Milwaukee, drove back to Chicago and just stopped by the studio for about an hour with Les to talk about the Bulls and let whatever caffeine or Red Bull or uppers that were was in his system fade out. Just two lifers who have known each other since the 312-976-1313 SportsPhone days shooting the shit.

Schuster is a regular on Les' show. Always a good listen.

Les has for me like the perfect single guy gig. I have no idea what he's paid or what, but you have a radio show you can essentially do what you want.

i can't imagine he's making a ton of bank doing the show but you get access to pretty much whatever, you can actually do it and then make it to the station to work. you get to talk to absolute lunatics in a darkened studio like frasier.

sleep till noon and there you go.

I bet he is clearing high five figures and can gorge himself on any food people left in the fridge. He has no expenses. Don't feel bad for Les. He has a family that loves him, several wives and is going to be able to finish out a career doing what he loves on his terms.

Still, it seems like they could at least mention him during the promo.

I'd do Les' job in a heartbeat. But, I'm no fast-tracker, so there is that.

Have always been a fan of Les and I'm sure he likes his time slot etc. but it is a slap in the face that they can't even mention his show in promos.

It's not that they couldn't fit it in the spot. Big Voice Guy gets the wordiest copy to read. (Think of every Bears Monday promo you've ever heard along the lines of The Bears fall to the Vikings, which means their record drops to 5-9, which is four games under .500!) Cut out the redundancies and you can fit "and Les Grobstein, overnights!" You owe him that much.
