Tonight they're showing an episode from 1978 hosted by Carrie Fisher.

For the SNL revisionist historians out there, this episode's monologue and first sketch are evidence that the show wasn't always funny, even with the (mostly) original NRFPTPs,

Sturgill Simpson was fantastic. Didn't watch any other parts of the show.

Outside of the Dave Chappelle episode this season has been horrible. Every single Trump skit is painful.

They need to start fresh. Even the people on the cast with talent are now not funny.

I thought Aziz was pretty funny for the 30 minutes we watched.

It was brilliant timing to have him as the host this week.

Mc Kinnon began her Conway impersonation painting her as a sympathetic character months ago. She seems to have changed her opinion now and really is just portraying her in a mean way

Yeah. The level of personal hurt by this show is really strange. They should be mocking Trump in a fun way that makes him look like a clown. Instead they seem to write sketches so people say "Hmmm, that Trump is a psycho idiot!" when most people know that already. Now they seem to be treating her like a terrible person too when basically she was a big success and is reaping the rewards.

Women do have the right to work for and support Trump.

Also, the Obama song was strange towards the end too. It was partially a thank you but also partially a "I'd like to bang you" but I don't think they intended to make it seem like they wanted to do that.

I'm all for them being full on liberal but don't be sad unfunny liberals.

When they had Hillary McKinnon sing Hallelujah after the election, the show basically died.

I'll still watch it but their political satire ended.

More like Republican satire. Wake me when they lash out against a Dem.

It's just killing these millennial twits that the election ended like it did,but let's hope we as Americans can make the best of it.

I'm surprised a bigger deal wasn't made about that but maybe no one cares or maybe a lot of people thought it was nice. They literally let Trump host an episode while running for President and then they acted like they had lost everything when he was elected.

You mean a bunch of liberal comedians didn't become conservatives when Trump took office?

Do you also wonder why Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly don't lash out against Republicans?

I have never thought SNL was even mildly amusing,(minus Farley) but I've seen the clips on the news of a 24 year old portraying Hillary and 60 year old men playing Trump. It's subliminal messaging.

Apparently Pasta didn't watch when Bill Clinton was in office.

He's been sleeping ever since the sketch where Phil Hartman stuffs burgers in his mouth. THE WARLORDS!

Exactly. They don't do political satire anymore, it's just them making fun of someone they don't like and don't think anyone should like. It's tedious and, worst of all, not funny.

I initially thought the "To Sir, with Love" tribute to Obama was a parody of something you'd see on North Korean TV. Two women with vacant stares and phony/nervous smiles singing the praises of Dear Leader. But it wasn't, it was 100% serious.

The show itself is turning into the skit they do where they mock H.S. theatre students who think they are using their art to educate and enlighten their audience, except their audience rolls their eyes and gets annoyed at being preached/condescended to by the kids.

I don't really watch the show, but I think it's possible that Trump is too silly to parody.

I watch every episode though we end up fast forwarding through a lot of the later sketches because they are high school level bad.

It's a good Sunday morning dvr show.

The "high school counter-culture theater shows" are always must skip.

I can get through an SNL episode in about 30 minutes ... I watch the skits with Kate McKinnon or Cecily Strong and Weekend Update. I skip certain repeating skits like the above, and anything with Aidy Bryant is featured prominently in. And I skip pretty much every musical guest.

I think sinicalypse had a good post a couple years ago about the smothering level of viral marketing NBC/Lorne Michaels does, such that any google search for a performer's name turns up a bevy of "WATCH SO-AND-SO DO THIS-AND-THAT" posts from Gawker and Mediaite and Slate and any number of online publications that regurgitate pop culture for pageviews.
