I have a lot of reservations about this.

If it is one second round pick or a combination of lower picks then maybe it is ok.

For the right price it would be ok but it would be easier to scout a college player over him at this point.

Doesn't he only have 1 year left on his rookie contract too?

Yes. So you have to turn around and try and sign him to a mega deal. Plus he gets to work under the great Dowell Loggains.

I didn't even think about that. No thanks.

Agreed. But Fox is in win-now mode and probably does not want to start a rookie QB.

As long as it is not trading away the #3 pick then I am ok with it. I am not sold on the QBs in the draft. But I do fear he is the next Cassel.

Hold on!
The kid was a 2nd round pick in 2014 and he's spent the last couple years training under Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.
Why are you guys valuing him so low?
I'm not giving up the #3 pick but I figure it ought to cost a #2 and a #3 or #4 to get Jimmy G.

He may suck and if he doesn't he gets expensive quick.

I would go 3 & 4. I wouldn't give up a 2nd round pick. Hard to trust a guy that had decent weapons and a good line, and looked good, but still only played 2-1/2 games in the NFL.

Shocked there isn't already a 'Janeane Garofalo' parody thread.

OK I just gave this 3 more seconds of thought and all I can think up is that bears brass want the cutler-haters out there to think "hey we tried every conceivable way to move on from Jay but AW SHUCKS" before they [hopefully? Definitely "rightfully"] decide to bring back Jay for 12.5mil and not mortgage their future on some over hyped kid from the 2017 draft.

You know what that'd be like? Saying you want a specific type of TV/computer/phone after doing your research then going up to best buy and getting something that they have in stock right now for the sake of getting something [anything] new ASAP. Don't do that. I'd rather have the bears suck for 1-2 more years now than 5+ years on the bounce!

That's like saying you're shocked that we're not in a nuclear winter ~10 days into the Trump administration.

Keeping Jay without getting the future quarterback would be the worst possible move.

I'd give up a 2nd and might still get a chance to get Garrett or Allen in the 1st.

That's a good draft.

Agree. I would feel differently if he had 2 years left on the deal. One year to audition and then pay a boatload of cash? Too risky IMO. Sure he could be great, but it could work out like Cutler or Osweiler.

Take a QB this year. Have Hoyer & Barkley as your QBs and redshirt the rookie this upcoming season...or let him start the final 2-3 games of the season to get his feet wet. Maybe even take another QB next year as well.

dude, jay isn't involved in the "worst possible move" scenario unless you're using him as an excuse to say that "WE MUST GET OUR QUARTERBACK OF THE FUTURE RIGHT NOW!" because, seriously, no matter what you do with jay it's only a 12.5mil cap hit, and barring some scenario where he goes out and has 4500yds and 40+ TD this year** and thus you go and guarantee him another 50-75mil+ [and then he goes back to being the usual "meh"] he's not going to fuck up your future to the tune of a "worst possible scenario" anywhere near as badly as, say, being so anti-cutler that you force yourself to get your quarterback of the future in this draft COME HELL OR HIGH WATER and then you end up setting yourself up to be bad for 5+ years all because you just HAD to appease idiots/haters who are mad because jay cutler isn't aaron rodgers [read: good enough to make a perennial 6-10 to .500 team a 10+ win team despite perpetually decreasing talent/quality around him]

seriously brick, i know you've got your bit with jay and god bless ya on that.... but at this point the bears have weathered "the storm" of the bad years of his contract, and because they did that they've earned the right to have beyond-affordable 12.5mil fliers on jay to give them the luxury of NOT having to go into a [sub-par]-to-bad QB draft like OMFG WE HAVE TO GET SOMEONE NOW BECAUSE CHICAGO IS SICK OF GAY CUTTHEAD!!!!!!

forcing yourself into a situation where you hitch the bears' wagon to a shitty young/rookie QB simply because you wanna get jay out of town = worst possible scenario.... for better or worse jay is just an affordable mercenary who can do a job for you and buy you the kind of time that he can easily afford from all the $$$ he got overpaid over the last 3-5yrs.

** = btw, if jay went out and dropped 4500yds+ and 40TD+ then wouldn't you actually have the franchise QB that you wanted? of course when i first said this i noted that it'd most likely be a 1yr/career-year deal and he'd likely go back to the guy we know you loathe, but still when i gotta sit here and say that jay going HAM to the extent where he earns a new big contract = his worst case scenario? man, at the end of the day the book on jay cutler = he isn't that good [and he definitely isnt what we all wanted him to be which, again, is basically aaron rodgers] BUT YOU CAN DO A LOT WORSE THAN JAY CUTLER!

I'm assuming you agree to a contract prior to the trade.

If so, a 2nd is a good deal. I've always liked this guy.
